Like Apples and Oranges

Posted by laurie on March 10, 2010

While not one of my better efforts, composition-wise, this photo beautifully illustrates the main difference between Sherman and Stanley. Given a human’s attention, Stanley wants to play – fetch, tug, chase, you name it – while Sherman wants nothing more than a 90 minute full-body massage with Enya playing in the background. Their names might sound similar but these are two very different beagles!

Having owned and been around beagles, I’m always amazed how different their personalities are but breed characteristics are always right on!

My beags are very much like yours, opposites.

My husband & I have our first beagle and we have a lab as well… amazing how well both personalities and breed traits get along… although the beagle rules the roost (female 13″), and the lab (male) is so laid back about it. They both love to chase balls (though the lab loves it more), romp and play, and both love to get the full affectionate attention… belly rubs, chest rubs, under the ear rubs, accompanied by kisses from the dogs…
Life is truly meaningful when one has dogs in the family.

Elvis and Abbey are like your two. Abbey likes Enya and massages (but only on her time; she isn’t much of a cuddler, probably because of her past), and Elvis wants to play play play PLAY…and recently has become quite the Mommy’s dog with the cuddling…but that’s only after he’s tired from play play play. His two speeds are 100 mph and 0 mph.

    Sherman really loves his daddy.
