It’s Raining Cats and Dogs!

Posted by laurie on March 15, 2010

Snow is so pretty (this was from a few weeks back). Rain, totally unattractive. This weekend’s Nor’easter featured only the latter. We were very lucky not to lose any trees or power.

Phillip was woodchipping the branches on Sunday from the tree that fell during the last storm when it started to thunder and lightning followed by hail. Goodness! A certain beagle whose name starts with an “S” (second letter “T”, last letter “Y”) did not not enjoy going out in the pouring rain, and poopied twice inside. Tsk, tsk.

I think I’ll make it to work although I’m going to have to drive far way out of my way to avoid the flooding. When Hurricane Floyd hit many years ago, the white fence was completely under water and our neighbor came canoeing down the road.

Trumbo isn’t crazy about the rain either and to get him to outside is a battle. I’ve been lucky these past few days and I count my blessings, but I know it won’t last.

Don’t feel bad. One of my beagles refused to go out when it was raining one time and wound up urinating on the bed during the middle of the night. I’ll clean up poop off the floor any day compared to that.

In Connecticut we got clobbered by the storm. The dogs were too scared to go out and I had to pretty much force them. They would have preferred pampers!

I agree with Steve. Abbey’s fond of announcing her disdain by peeing on our bed. She hates hates HATES rain (did I say hate?), as did all beagles before her in this household. Elvis doesn’t seem to mind quite as much.

Sadie was terrified of storms, as well. I had to take her out on a leash, and refuse to let her back in until her business was accomplished.
She learned to do what I wanted, but only for me. No one else in the family was able to accomplish this feat.
    Good luck!

Plato knows better. He does not like to go out in the rain but when he has to go he goes outside. Rain or shine. I am sure Stanley can be trained.

How I hate this time of year. Mud up to our elbows. 20 paws to clean.
They say we are in for another extra-wet year–oh, goody. Our honorary beagle (the Doberman) hates rain. She will hold it until her eyes turn yellow. She won’t mess in the house, though. The card-carrying beagles will all go out in the rain, as long as it isn’t a downpour. For the most part, no body has any thunder and lightening issues, thank goodness. They know, however, when it’s not just a run-of-the-mill thunderstorm. They all hide when it’s a real dangerous one.

Scout will hide in the bathroom, but won’t get all nervous. I go in and assure him every so often. Trainers say not to do that, but why not? Would you let a small kid be afraid on his own?

Jordan will happily run around in a hurricane, then jump in our bed to wiggle around and dry off. Josie (the former huntin’ dawg) pretty much just barely hang her backside out the dog door onto the patio. But at least it’s not inside the house.

My beagle, Cooper, doesn’t like to get this feet wet either! But he enjoyed running around in the snow this winter.
