Who’s the boss?

Posted by laurie on July 19, 2010

Don’t they make a cute couple? This little scene was played out countless times over the weekend. First Maggie would hump Stanley. Then she would play bow and the chase would start. Around and around the house, through the doggie door and into the yard. They seemed to be having a wonderful time. Sherman watched from his perch on top of the couch.

P.S. to Cate – I’d be happy to post a photo of your beagle puppy so people could help you name him!

Oh my, how hilarious! Looks like Maggie wears the pants in this relationship! Glad Stanley had someone to romp and run around with.

My girl, Jodi is in charge of everything, but she does not hump Barney. As the saying goes, “if Momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy”. Those Beagle girls are tuff stuff.;)

Love the comments; Whisky Girl beagle “shares” alpha-ness with our Lab (three times her weight), but when she puts her paw down, he backs off. She doesn’t “dominate” him, just is feisty feisty feisty! Once in a while if I nudge her while she’s sleeping (on our bed at the foot) she will give a low growl (just like me when I’m woken up!).

Lilibet, one of my female beagles, also exhibits signs of role reversal with one of the males, who doesn’t appreciate her confusion.

Oh I am so glad we are not the only ones with a female beagle who does this! Our Vet said she’s just showing her dominance- so we call this ‘dominating’. As in ‘Don’t dominate your brother!’. I am the only one in the family she does NOT do this to- so obviously we know who’s the true Alpha Dog!
