King of the gym

Posted by laurie on November 11, 2010

Have you ever been to Ikea? It’s an enormous furniture and home accessories store. Two huge floors of stuff and every single piece has its own incomprehensible Swedish name. It’s up near Newark airport and Phillip picked up this bookcase the weekend before last, and gallantly returned with me last Sunday to get another one at half the size which will go in our closet to hold some of his clothes. Phillip’s too busy with politics to make large bookcases, but that’s fine, this looks perfectly nice. If you haven’t seen pictures of his woodworking projects, they’re all (except for the file cabinet and benches) over here. Anything he touches turns to gold. But you knew that, right?

I enjoy the occassional day trip to the Potomac Mills Ikea. However, whenever I’m there, I hear the voice of a friend who likes to say (in a very Betty Davis way): “Ikea is swedish for uncomfortable”.

I knew Phillip made a lot of your furniture, but I didn’t realize it was that much of it … including chairs with curved backs — now that is REALLY impressive! But what about the redneck chainsawed log bench, why isn’t that featured? :->

I love Ikea! We’ve got a smaller version of this same bookcase and two nightstands from there. I must admit, my husband and I do not usually work well together, and assembling furniture usually results in some amount of shouting and the occasional storming out of the room. Yelling always upsets Spunky – I think she thinks she’s in trouble – even if we are only venting about a rough day at work or bad traffic and not directing it at each other. Our Ikea furniture all went together quickly and with no yelling, which was a relief to everyone, especially our little Spunkster.

Forgot to mention – looks like Stan likes the new “wait” bench!

Stanley looks as though he’s practicing his moves for Westminster KC.

Would that be the Expedit bookcase? We installed 2 of the Expidit bookcase units with desks in our home office last month. It took us 3 trips to the Ikea store to finish it. Oh did I mention said store is 150 miles away????? 🙂

Wow! That dining table has me drooling. I love the headboard and the night stands. Platinum is a better description than gold.

    Holy Crap!
