It’s a wrap!

Posted by laurie on November 15, 2010

I spent most of yesterday working on the calendar and have sent it off to Ron to print! There were quite a lot of special days which I double-checked and hope that there are no mistakes. My apologies in advance if there are. I don’t have an exact count yet, but there are orders for at least 125 calendars!

Captain Dr. Kramer

Posted by laurie on November 12, 2010

The hospital had a Veterans Day ceremony yesterday, and because Phillip is now trés svelte he wore his Air Force flight suit for it! This is what he used to wear while co-piloting those large B-52s. Doesn’t he look handsome?

The calendar will go to Ron to print on Monday. Here’s your last call to put in your beagle’s birthday. It’s not the payment cutoff, though, so don’t worry if your checks are late.

King of the gym

Posted by laurie on November 11, 2010

Have you ever been to Ikea? It’s an enormous furniture and home accessories store. Two huge floors of stuff and every single piece has its own incomprehensible Swedish name. It’s up near Newark airport and Phillip picked up this bookcase the weekend before last, and gallantly returned with me last Sunday to get another one at half the size which will go in our closet to hold some of his clothes. Phillip’s too busy with politics to make large bookcases, but that’s fine, this looks perfectly nice. If you haven’t seen pictures of his woodworking projects, they’re all (except for the file cabinet and benches) over here. Anything he touches turns to gold. But you knew that, right?

Lift with the legs!

Posted by laurie on November 10, 2010

For the first 19-1/2 years of our marriage, I never would have thought to use the words “Phillip” and “weight bench” in the same sentence. Last weekend, all that changed. Accompanied by his buddy Larry (the deputy chief of police!), he bought this introductory weight bench with some twenty pound weights for himself and some five pounders for me. Larry came over on Monday night to give us a quick tutorial. I’d say that we now officially have a “gym.” This was my office for the first couple of years that we lived here when I telecommuted to a company in California, and it also serves as guestroom overflow. Got to do something about those walls.

As of last night I’ve received payment for over 100 calendars! That’s $1500 for rescue! Please, if you haven’t entered your special days or made your purchase, do so as soon as possible, as I’d like to get the calendar ready for printing by the end of the week. Ordering details are here.

Paging Rod Serling

Posted by laurie on November 8, 2010

A bunch of years ago when I was visiting my sister in Oregon, she, my niece and I drove up to Seattle. While we were there I decided that I HAD to see Bill Gates’ mansion. At that point it was still under construction and I doubt he was living there, but who knows. Anyway, this was before the GPS so we had to use a map and had some trouble locating the neighborhood. I remember stopping people walking down the street to ask directions. They gladly obliged and we found the house. It’s on the lake and was at the bottom of a windy road which sported “Be careful of our children!” signs in addition to the delivery schedule of the various builders. We could only get a glimpse of the house but that was okay. I took lots of pictures and had them developed as soon as we got back to Portland. The pictures BEFORE Bill Gates’ house came out, and the pictures AFTER Bill Gates’ house came out, but not a single picture of Bill Gates’ house came out. Who knows? Maybe if you’re the richest person in the world you can pay someone to come up with that kind of hocus pocus. I think it was probably a fluke.

On Saturday Phillip put together his new weight bench and I got some very cute pictures of the boys helping him. When I attached the card reader to my computer on Sunday night there was NOTHING. Not a SINGLE picture. Sorry!

Stan the man looking uncharacteristically solemn.

By the way, I have orders for over 80 calendars! I will wait until early next week to send it to Ron for printing, so get your birthdates in soon.

Our friends John and Diane (grandparents of Tootsie and Buttercup) came over for dinner this weekend. I certainly didn’t think the conversation was boring, but apparently Stanley did…

Phillip was looking all over for Sherman the other day and found him here, in the guestroom, where the summer and the winter bedding had temporarily co-mingled.
