Reality bites

Posted by laurie on December 27, 2010

We got home on Friday night after upgrading (again!) to first class. If you’ve flown international into Newark you know how enormous the Immigration and Customs area is, and how long the line can be (like waiting for a chair lift). Well, Christmas Eve is the time to travel because there was NO line whatsoever. We went from leaving the plane to getting in the car in 45 minutes! The best part of leaving was coming home to the boys, and in a close second place, knowing that we’re going back to Jamaica in April to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary.

I’m grateful we travelled when we did. This was the scene this morning. I measured 10″ of snow on the Adirondack table, but it’s very windy and the snow is blowing. However, not so bad, relatively speaking. The boys have 3+” of head clearance!

I’ve been watching newscasts of the blizzard conditions in your part of the country. Living in Wisconsin, I know how that much snow can bring things to a standstill. The best thing to do is snuggle in (with your beagles, and in our case, our cats, too) and wait it out. Hope the Kramer gang stays safe!

brrrr. A little culture shock? Welcome back. My family lives outside of Philly so I have been keeping tabs on your weather. Keep warm, be safe. Give the boys a hug from us.

    Laurie,
You are so funny and entertaining! The Daily Digital is on my checklist for first thing in the morning. Glad to have you back with the boys!!

Yeah, this weather is wild. They were calling for snow on Thursday, canceled it on Friday morning, then we were back to expecting a blizzard. Glad to be near Philadelphia (Wilmington, DE) and not in NYC or Boston. We got about 6″ here, but as Laurie mentioned, hard to tell with the high winds. But on the other hand, it’s going to be back up to 50 degrees over the weekend — crazy! Beagles are snuggled into dog beds next to the front door, watching “Dad” run the snow blower, thank goodness I have the option to work from home if needed.

and meanwhile, Michigan, which usually gets slammed, gets missed again. We have cold, yes…wind, yes…not a lot of snow–maybe 2 inches? No snow expected for awhile, and the forecast for Friday and Saturday is rain. I ordinarily don’t mind but I do not like rain this time of year…chills me to the bone and affects my arthritis. And rain freezes…gimme the snow over all that any time. Not as much as you have, though…

Glad you enjoyed your vacation and that you got home before the snow storm. We took our beagle with us to northeastern PA to visit my husband’s dad for the holidays. Thought we might get snowed in an extra day, but they were just west of the storm and the snow missed them completely. Just arrived home safe and sound in Michigan. Spunky doesn’t like car rides much, but she made the long drive both ways without a problem.

I’m in Connecticut and we got buried! But watching the dogs play in the snow was priceless

I have shoveled paths in the snow for my beagles too!
