Are you my mom?

Posted by laurie on March 15, 2011

Is this the cutest thing or what?

I don’t want to tell him that the dog bed is not his mom. He’s too young to be disillusioned.

Could that BE any cuter?? Made my day. 🙂

Very cute 🙂 Love those soft brown eyes. Eddy wakes up licking and chewing on his blanket, never really thought about why he does that. hmmm

My Alex did that his entire life and he lived almost to the age of 16! We had a few fuzzy textured pillows and a few towels that served as his blankets that were his main targets.

Is he actually sucking on it? Or just resting with his teeth in it?

Gigi is a licker…anything. Now I just say “no lick” when she gets into her hypnotic licking groove and she stops for a few minutes. Her dogbed I don’t want to see under a UV light at this

Oh yeah, we know all about the hypnotic licking at our house. Josie usually just thoroughly cleans her feet, but occasionally will work on the wall by her dog bed, then starts dragging her teeth on the wallboard – nice! Jordan sleeps in the bed with us (Josie hates the people bed), and we have “rust” stains on the comforter from the blankey licking. Fortunately they come out with Spray N Wash and a run through the washing machine. But isn’t that one of the skeeviest sounds when you’re lying in bed in the dark and they go slorp-slorp-slorp? Eeeeew!

Daisy is a compulsive licker. And it’s annoying since she sleeps in our bedroom. Shorty is also a licker. He licks his paws, the carpet, the dog bed, etc.

Love the “slorp” description – Whisky girl beag does that to her paws. The lab also licks his paws, the chair, the floor, the rug, etc. Tho he will stop when I say no kisses (sometimes) 🙂

So it is a beagle thing! I always thought my beags were weird for their compulsive licking, but looks like they are just being normal =)

Yup – our Faeron does the exact thing … every time she’s decompressing from a rigorous run or winding down for the day, she can be found chompin’ down on her ‘blankey’ and eventually dozing off … so sweet she looks!!

I’m pretty sure it’s a dog thing, not just a beagle thing. I’ve heard reports about other people’s non-beagles doing a lot of licking.

I agree it’s a dog thing. My sister has two cocker spaniels and they lick just as much as the beags.

My buddy has a big stuffed dog that he puts in his mouth! This picture reminds me of him….how cute!

Blue likes to get on my bed and nibble on my sheets.

    • Carol said

I wasn’t going to admit this earlier, but there semi circles of material missing from our comforter, blanket and sheets from where Eddy nibbles. It is always first thing in the morning while he is waking up.

Our Doberman, the honorary beagle, made Swiss Cheese out of almost all of our blankets and comforters. She would wake up in the middle of the night and just start to chew with those big, strong back teeth. Knock on wood, she’s kind of gotten away from it (after 8 years). I hope it stays that way.

Our 2 boy beagles are the compulsive lickers. Dexter (who, by the way, is doing great–still a little wobbly, but is getting better each day) cleans the floor, the furnace grates, the furniture. Scotty, the Pirate, licks furniture, blankets, the dog beds, etc. Do we have to worry about lint balls in the tummy?

    • Luana, Cody, and Henry said

Cody has chewed holes in the comforter on my bed and a couple of blankets. He chewed so many holes in my first comforter that I had to throw it away! He’s also in the process of chewing the stuffing out of two of his dog beds.

Awwwwwwwwww. Reminds me of the childrens’ book “Are you my mother?”

    • Harper said

I thought the same thing when I read the post. LOVED that book when I was a child. Mom used to read it to me and my older brother.

Awww poor baby boy! I think Stanley’s missig Maggie. He’s so upset she went home that he’s taken to the typical bite hold of his bed for security. I think this may be love!

It’s so neat to see and hear of other beagles doing this! Truman loves to chomp down on his blankets, while kneading at them with his paws. I think maybe it takes him back to when he was nursing. It seems to soothe him, and like Mr. Stanley, it is so cute to watch!

Sherry wraps herself in her favorite blanket & chews on it. They’re so funndy – don’t know what we’d do without them!

  10. SUE, Barney & Jodi's Mom said

Jodi is a compulsive licker as well. Anything anywhere. I cannot put a new set of sheets and pillow cases on my bed without making him stay out of the bedroom. I can’t tell you how many pillow cases he has ruined. I find big wet holes in them…just the new ones tho, don’t know how he knows it I mean I wash them first, but he does.
