Snow, melt, repeat

Posted by laurie on March 23, 2011

The picture is from yesterday, the lawn today has a heavy dusting of snow. I predicted this last Friday when it was 80 degrees. You can’t trust March when you’re north of the Mason-Dixon line.

We are dancing to the same tune here in the Midwest. Yesterday: rain, thunderstorms, tornadoes. Tomorrow through Saturday: snow.

Try explaining to a beagle that his 72 degree, sunny day morphed into 30 degrees and snowing overnight.

Love it! Here in Utah, for spring and fall, the saying is “If you don’t like the weather, stick around for 5 minutes”. Lucky and Blazer don’t care what the weather is as long as they get their daily walkie!

Well, hang on. I assume you guys are going to eventually get this mess that’s now hitting us on the coast of California: tons of rain, wind and snow. Oy. NOT beagle weather.

That’s what you get in March when the weather transitions from winter to spring. Cody and Henry just LOVED the mild weather we had last Saturday and were outside on their leashes off and on all day. I had to bring Henry in every so often when his barking and howling (sounds a lot like a seal) got to be too much as he followed the spring smells around with his nose stuck firmly to the ground. Yesterday we started out with rain, which eventually changed to snow. Now our entire back yard, patio, and driveway are covered with the white stuff again. Such is spring in Wisconsin!

Fortunately our Scooby is a snow beagle! We live in Saskatoon, SK, Canada and we usually have snow 5-6 months of the year. It’s been warming up and the snow is starting to melt, although we still have about 1 1/2 to 2 feet of snow covering our grass.

Yesterday morning it started to snow big fluffy snowflakes and Scooby refused to come inside! He was standing outside, staring at the sky, watching it snow! He then proceeded to roll on his back and make snow angels. (Kinda like the DD of the boys on the grass a couple of days ago.) I didn’t have the heart to bring him in until he was ready, so I was a few mintues late for work. Well worth it!

Love it!! Those beagles sure are adaptable. While mine like the nice weather, they’re more than happy to just snooze in their snuggle balls all day if it’s raining/snowing out. Now, Court Jester Jordan will go out in a hurricane and meander around the yard for half an hour and come in all soaking wet. HRH Princess Josie of North Wilmington, who is the ex-huntin’ dawg, has turned into a prima donna and barely hangs her hairy little behind out of the dog door to do her business when there’s inclement weather. Watch your step when heading out to the hot tub!
