What’s wrong with this picture?

Posted by laurie on May 23, 2011

We hosted an SOS Beagle Rescue beaglefest on Saturday. Somehow we were lucky enough to enjoy the only nice weather in possibly two weeks. We had about 40 people and about 35 dogs, mostly beagles of course, but not all. Stanley did his usual freak-out when the first few dogs arrived but then calmed down and was surprisingly polite. Sherman mingled for about ten minutes and then asked to go inside. Spenser used to be like this, he hated the commotion of beaglefests and tried to go in, but because he was tall enough to reach the food, he had to stay outside. I know this is funny, huh? A beagle asleep next to all that food?

The first photo was taken by my friend Jeri, who brought her husband Toby and beagles Sammy and Millie. She also brought me this gorgeous pillow that she made herself. Thank-you, Jeri!!

    Sherman might think he’s dreaming.

The beaglefest was a blast! Thanks so much for having us over. The dogs slept like logs on the way home.

We had a great time! Shermie’s sweet disposition is so much like Sammy’s. I love the picture of him next to the pillow! ๐Ÿ™‚ I know that if it were my Millie or Sammy on top of that couch, they would take a flying leap onto the table! ๐Ÿ™‚ What a well behaved boy that Sherman is!

I hope Penny and I could make the next Beaglefest. Penny is a tall girl, so she would not have to leap onto the table–just ‘meerkat’ and help herself. ( Sometimes, she hops sideways on her hind legs, which must be seen to be appreciated).

Both your boys are stunning, but Sherman’s eyes! No wonder Penny is in love with him.

PS–Saint Ladybug Beagle would have leapt onto the table, and tried to fit the entire cake in her muzzle.

Wonder how long it would take mine to clear that table. LOL
Glad you had fun and nice weather.

That’s adorable. You can just see Shermi’s halo superimposed on the cake – he’s such a sweet and well-behaved boy!

You gotta watch out for the short ones, though. Miss Lily (curled up innocently next to me at the present) has left footprints on our dining room table. She can’t jump up, and she doesn’t meerkat, but she can use the chairs to get up there.

Andy used the chairs as springboards to get on the table (mad dash from the kitchen, bounce off a chair & land in the middle of the table). It was definitely an Olympic pole vault event. Sherry is very lady-like & somewhat well-mannered. First she daintily jumps on a chair. Then, when she thinks we’re not looking, she steps onto the table.

Sherman really is the best boy in the whole world! What an angel. How he can sleep with a table full of deliciousness next to him is beyond me. My Truman would have yanked that tablecloth in no time, bringing all the goods tumbling down with it!

Wow how lucky you are Laurie and Philip to have such a good boy. Dexter and Daisy would have been on that table in nothing flat.

Our 1st beagle, my sweet Shelby Lou, often got up on the table. We, being bad pet parents and deeply in love with this strong-willed creature, allowed her.

One day, we were cleaning up after lunch. We both grapped dirty plates and such, and went into the kitchen. When we came back into the dining room, Shelby was on the dining table, lapping up the good stuff from the deviled eggs. When we both spoke her name at the same time, she whipped her head around as to say, “I’m BUSY here”. And went back to ’em. (sigh) I miss that hound.

My mother used to make coffee cake. Her recipe made three 8″ round cakes. One day she put the three coffee cakes on the kitchen table in large plastic baggies and left the room. All of a sudden, she heard a swish-swish sound from the kitchen. When she went to check, Bogie (our first beagle) had jumped high enough to grab the edge of one of the baggies. He ran down the hallway with his treat, and by the time she caught him, he had devoured most of the coffee cake AND the baggie! We thought he would get sick, but he showed no signs whatever of a tummy ache!
