3 Variations of a Beagle and a Chihuahua

Posted by laurie on September 23, 2011

Clockwise, from left … Charlie, my 10-year-old beagle; Parker, my former foster with Atlanta Beagle Rescue who now has a FABulous home; Bailey, my 8-year-old beagle adopted from Atlanta Beagle Rescue in 2008; and Finnegan, my 2-year-old Chihuahua who thinks he’s a beagle!

Parker sits up so nice and tall. I’ve never seen a beagle sit so erect. Mine all sit like slobs. I think it’s great that a lot of us have “honorary” beagles of all different sizes.

    Nice, nice looking group.

Clark is giving “eyes” at the camera and is compelling me to reach for treats! Bailey is doing what we call “teefies” which also results in a treat. Finnegan is cracking me up with his very good Beagle imitation…the perfect combo of eagerness, antsy sit/stay and intense gazing..lol.

Parker is a very regal boy and is just plain cute. Very glad he found a great home.

Anyone want to give me some advice on Charlie? He’s my newish old beagle that is really half basset and beagle. He’s older and had several homes. He’s sort of a bulldog with the jumping and barking anytime anyone enters the kitchen and regular training doesn’t work. He is food obsessed which makes me think he might have not been fed well at some point and had to fight for food. I have bruises all over my legs from his jumping on me and pushing me. Would love some advice from out there…so many of you have had interesting rescues before….thanks!

I have worked with alot of fosters mostly hounds Beagles and Bassets have you tried a water bottle? Spray him right between the eyes that normally works every time. I carry one around with me all the time when I get a new foster in.Use it for any behavior that you don’t approve of or want him doing. As for the food take the time to feed him a few pieces at a time. Yes I know this is very time consuming, but this lets him know that he will get fed but you are the BOSS. Eventually he will settle down, but the other thing you have to remember Basset hounds are VERY stubborn and they want to be the Boss.

Ah, “teefies” – that’s great! It cracks me up when Spunky does that. And I’d say Finnegan has become an expert at the beagle beg. What a fine looking pack!

Love this photo! Reminds me of the song (was it from Sesame Street?)… “one of these dogs is not like the other….” Okay, the original word is “things” but our doggies are not things. 🙂 Love all four precious pups!

OMG at first glance I thought Parker had a cap with a tube coming out of it, like a hair dryer. LOL Cute beautiful faces. That must have been a very special treat you were holding up. It looks like they are waiting for the mothership to beam them up.

Wow, love the pic! Parker reminds me of the movie To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything. He is so statuesque…just like the picture of Julie Newmar that Patrick Swayze carried around in the movie!!!!! The other beags are sweet, as well as the honorary beagle. Chihuahuas are my second favorite breed. They are like pint sized princesses with all the attitude of a biker dude. This picture is too cute for words!

Somebody had a great “trigger finger” to get this pic of all four at just the right moment. Love it!
