So we had this ludicrous storm on Saturday, like we lived in Buffalo, NY instead of central New Jersey! Around 4-6″ of very wet snow. We lost the cherry tree next to the wood pile but fortunately nothing else in or around the yard, and our power stayed on the whole time. Hot tubbing in the snow was sort of fun, sort of not. I have to get an appropriate hat for next time.

Let me tell you, this is something you would NEVER see with the other boys. No, they would be fighting instead. So what’s going on here is that Stanley is trying to assert some dominance while Sherman actually is. We call this schmerkel sniffing, a riff on the Yiddish. What’s it called at your house?

When we moved into the house thirteen years ago Phillip installed a temporary doggy door in the sliding glass door. Clayton and Spenser, having had a doggy door in Baltimore, learned it instantly. It took about a day to train Matisse, my cousin’s toy poodle. A few weeks (or maybe months) later, Phillip installed this permanent doggy door. We pushed Matisse out of it but when he wanted to come inside he went to the sliding glass door and practically bounced off of it. (It was hard not to laugh.) Then, for days, he would sit in front of where the temporary door had been located to be let in and out. Poor Matisse. But with poodle determination, he eventually figured it out.

Scared you, huh? Don’t worry, it’s not a real skunk, it’s one of the indestructible stuffing-less doggie toys. We’ve not had any skunk encounters with these guys, yet. There was the time that Spenser got sprayed while we were on vacation, so my cousin and Courtney had to deal with that. And then of course the time when Spenser and Scooter charged a skunk (Spenser actually picked it up in his mouth!) and they both got sprayed. I have had a bottle of Nature’s Miracle Skunk Odor Remover under the kitchen sink ever since, and I recommend that you do the same if a skunk encounter is a possibility – it worked really well for the smelly boys.

Phillip’s nickname for Stanley is “Stanleykins.” So imagine his surprise when he heard over the hospital loudspeakers, “Paging Dr. Kim, Dr. Stanley Kim.” But it gets better, because the next week it’s “Paging Dr. Sherman. Dr. Sherman!” When did they go to med school??

Here’s a cute story for you. I leave for work before Phillip and part of his and the boys’ routine is that they stay upstairs while he gets dressed. Usually Sherman goes into the crate for a nap. Then, when Phillip is dressed he nudges Sherm and they all head downstairs for a goodbye treat. Stanley leads the parade. Well, the other day no beagles came downstairs. Phillip called them, to no avail. So he went upstairs and found Stanley sitting right next to the crate, waiting for his brother. Awwww!

This was taken the same day as the one of Clayton from last Thursday. It was 2000 so Scooter was about two, and Spenser was about five. (Gosh that’s a long time to be putting up photos!)
And speaking of photos, I’d love to see your suggestions for the calendar. Next week I’ll post a signup for special days, and also the payment information.

Whoa! After everyone telling me that they look at the DD first thing in the morning, I fail to produce on time! Mea culpa. This is a photo that Phillip took while walking the boys on the canal. He said that the turtle initially had his head out, but not for long. This is the sort of thing that would make Sherman apoplectic if it was in the yard.
Little miss baby turtle?

Phillip wants me to ask when you check the DD. He says, “I check it when I am stressed at work. It’s my micro vacation.” Hmmm. Not a surprise that he has daily stress at work. Okay, how about you?
