Of Lucy, Ethel, trees and bushes

Posted by laurie on October 17, 2011

Our town held a festival on Saturday and in addition to the different vendors and musicians, the local shelter came and with them, Lucy and Ethel. They are puggles – pug and beagle mix, and they were so darn cute and friendly it was all I could do not to take them home. There is someone interested in them, hopefully that will work out.

Sunday was landscaping day. Phillip did all the work, under the watchful eye of the shift supervisor, Stanley.

There’s nothing like beagle supervision! I just finished my morning stretches with Henry’s face in mine most of the time!

Lucy and Ethel are darlings. I hope their adoption works out happily for them!

The hot tub project is looking better and better!

Looking good! And your staff can handle all the watering. Is that fountain grass I see on the right?

The puggles are cute, but it’s also very sad– people breed these “designer dogs” and they end up abandoned just like other dogs.

I like landscaping, I just hate the maintenance after that. :-> I did pretty well last year because we had a decent spring, but once we hit the really hot weather, I forgot we even had a yard. It was so embarassing that Rob actually went out and cut down the little trees growing out of the middle of the flower beds.

Those puggles are just a tad odd lookig to me. But then I’m a confirmed Beagle girl. 🙂 They definitely have that beagle “come on over and love me” look down pat.

My landscaping is just a nightmare. Still not cleaned entirely up from Irene with all the trees down.

Des Moines had the annual “Pet Expo” this weekend. It’s a hoot. You can bring your pet, visit all kinds of vendors and 20 different rescues, and there are contests and exhibitions. One young lady had a teeny, tiny pot-bellied pig on a leash. He walked and behaved better than most of the dogs there. He was the hit of the day.
We fell in love with wonderful little basset lady and a sweet, sweet little greyhound girl. Alas, we couldn’t take them home, with a houseful of hounds already. Maybe someday we’ll be able to take one of each home with us.

I see that General Manager Sherman is also keeping an eye on the job from the exertion-free deck.

Or perhaPs Sherm is “inspecting” from an OSHA approved distance away since he isn’t wearing a hardhat. 🙂

Perhaps Stan could put that good beagle digging to work!

I agree with Christy about the odd looking puggles. Poor little things, I guess they weren’t ‘designer’ enough for the breeder.

I planted a large mum and a rose bush this weeken. As I’m struggling to dig around roots, Ruby is halfway to China on the other side of the garden. I seriously tried to get her to dig where I wanted the holes. Nothin’ doin’!

OH!! but we finally got her to master the doggie door WITH the flap down!!!!! Good thing–I was afraid we’d have snow in the house where we had the flap propped open!!!!
