Let me outta here

Posted by laurie on January 12, 2012

Guess where? Yup, at the vet. Clayton used to do this, too, drag me to the door, and try to sit and wait for someone to set him free. This was just a routine checkup but somehow with the ear medicine and the urinalysis and a distemper shot, I didn’t get out for under $200. Vet care is so expensive! We have VPI pet insurance. It doesn’t cover routine stuff but we bought the cancer rider which was well worth it when Scooter and Spenser were both sick and needed chemo and radiation, respectively. Anyway, Stanley weighed 27 pounds which is 4 less than his high of 31. I think he could stand to lose another couple of pounds (as could I after a solid month of eating cookies).

Ah, the sad forlorn-ness of a beagle at the Vet. LOL.

Good job on the weight! I’m here with ya, the holiday weren’t kind to my waistline…I gain 7 pounds and that is a lot of cookies, strudels, cakes and big dinners! And don’t forget the home made candies. Argh!

Vet care is super expensive, but I’ll take it! It’s improved so much in terms of medicines available and safe to use, diagnostics and remediation that it is like we came out of the dark ages or something. To me, it’s worth it.

I wish I had pet insurance. Given that I only adopt old dogs with sketchy or downright scary past lives, I really don’t qualify at anything remotely like a reasonable rate.

If I could do it again, I would purchase insurance for both dogs when we got them as puppies. Now, after 10 years and arthritis issues with both, we’re out of luck.

Mine drag me to the door GOING to the vet. They can’t wait to get inside!

Mine drag me as well, then when we are in the exam room they try to squeeze under the door to the waiting room. Sillyness 🙂

We had to go w/ Eddie on Tuesday. He stepped on one of our son’s toys and has pulled a muscle in his hip. So he’ll be on medicine for at least a month!

He weighs 33 lbs (:() Which is 3 less than his high of 36 (:()

They love the vet because they get treats!!! Oscar is so tall he has learned to help himself. The great Rosco once ate through the bottom of a giant bag of food that was waiting in the floor for someone. I just ran when I saw what he did.

Way to go, Stanley! Four pounds is a lot to lose on a little beagle frame. He looks great!

Laurie, I have Pet Assure. Its not insurance, but a discount program. A straight 25% off everything, every time (except food). I pay about $150 a year for 2 dogs and 4 cats. Not all vets participate, though. Check their website. I’m lucky my wonderful vets do. I make the enrollment fee back in no time with my crew.

I should add, the website says meds and lab sendouts are not included, but my vet discounts everything but food. So its really a good deal for me.

And the arrow on Stanley’s butt says, ‘This Way to Freedom!”

I am trying to keep Vet bills down as well- but had to go back last week because I caught my Buddy Boy- doing the Butt Scoot Boogie across the carpet. Yup – the Vet said that he needed his anal glads cleaned. This is the second time and the Vet said that Beagles are pron to it. Does any one else have this problem ? Vet suggested giving him a either a teaspoon of Metamucil mixed in with his food, or a Tablespoon of canned pumpkin ( not pumpkin pie filling) and it will add fiber to his diet which is said to help the gland problem. Does anyone else have this problem with their beagle and have you found anything to help ?
I just started with the pumpkin – so guess I have to wait a few months to see if it has anyh effect. Thanks – Audrey
