How’s the water?

Posted by laurie on January 13, 2012

Getting in the hot tub is Stanley’s signal to go outside and commence mindless barking. It’s really annoying and hard to stop him. When he’s done (or takes a quick break) he comes over to lick our faces and arms. It’s fun to tub at night and watch all the planes taking off from Newark Airport, which is about 30 miles away. Short enough to see all the lighting on the bottom of the planes but far enough so that they’re not too noisy. Unlike a certain beagle. Yes, Stanley, that’s you.

Maybe he is trying to alert you to the danger of getting into non-muddy water?

I envy you! We got hit with our first significant snowfall yesterday – about 6″.

One good thing about it, though – the snow covers up the smells, so Henry doesn’t go out in the morning and bark his fool head off!

Beagles are like small children in that they have that sense of timing to commence barking, barking, barking (howling, howling, howling) when you are distracted, trying to relax or just too busy or unwilling to stop them. Before we let our Suzie out we ask her, “Is this a legitimate trip outside or a barking event.?” She never answers – ha ha

      That is hilarious!

“When you are distracted . . . or busy . . .” That is SO right! This morning we were trying to cope with all the snow dumped in our driveway by yesterday’s snowstorm. Of course, Cody and Henry were anxiously running around, underfoot, and trying to get out the door! I think they react TRIPLE TIME to the energy being given off by their people. Once things calmed down, they were lying quietly on their doggie beds.

I love the expression on Philip’s face – like Stanley is whispering something important in his ear!

Have you ever had a pack of beagles who howl and run after you when you run for the phone? It’s hard to answer it without cracking up!

Love the hot tub at night! Poor Stan, so misunderstood 🙂

If they didn’t have some aggravating qualities, they wouldn’t be beagles!

Well MY interpretation is . . . most beagles don’t like water, so he may be thinking in that sweet little pea-brain, “What the HECK is Dad doing??? Doesn’t he know that stuff is awful?? I’M SOUNDING THE ALERT! SOMEBODY COME AND HELP THIS GUY! HE’S LOST HIS MIND! SOMEBODY! ANYBODY? IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE?? (Oh, never mind on that one, there is.) Lather, rinse, repeat, ad nauseum. 🙂

They are all so funny. Josie is the “barking event” participant in our household, but she has a purpose. She’s definitely hooting at wildlife or whooping at stray cats in the woods outside our fence. Two of her bazillion nicknames are “You Old Yard Barker” and “You’re Such a Cat Whupper” (just sounds better than “Cat Whooper”).

Neither hound cares if we’re in our hot tub, but then again, ours is not sunk into the deck, it’s sitting on a concreate patio so they aren’t at eye level with us. And Kramers, it’s nice you’re far enough away to enjoy your airplanes … we’re about 20 minutes/15 miles south of PHL, and depending on weather, wind direction and air traffic volumes, they can be way too frequent and low. And they’re planning on redirecting/adding more runways, which is going to increase the load. :-<
