Do the math

Posted by laurie on January 31, 2012

I wonder how many hours a day these guys sleep? Sherman sleeps more than Stanley – no surprise there, huh?

we have video surveillance cameras all over the house. They send us email alerts when they sense motion.
The camera in the living room goes off 3-4 times a day. If we look at the video, its Bailey or Gypsy rearranging themselves on the sofa. The office camera goes off about twice that for Trent in his crate. Again, rearranging himself.
My guess is they all sleep from the time we leave for work, till the car pulls in the driveway. Sometimes they hear it and wake up. Sometimes they don’t. And boy are they ever embarrassed when we walk in on them asleep!

After the excitement of breakfast, my dogs are exhausted and ready for a LONG morning nap.

Our Beagles are like Karen’s after they eat their breakfast their exhausted and it’s back to bed they go for another few hours til lunch time when they get a small treat to tied them over til dinnertime. I’m with Christy how much are they really awake?

My husband Rob works from home, and has confirmed that much sleeping goes on. Josie will stop by several times a day on her way in and out of the dog door for some head scritchies while he’s on conference calls. Apparently 40 degrees and sunny is good enough for sun bathing in the yard, as Josie spent some time napping out there yesterday (or as we call it when she’s completely upside down with paws pointing in 4 directions, “skanking in the yard”). Jordan would rather stay in the dog bed by Rob’s side, ready to leap up and follow wherever he might be going, because you never know when there will be an adventure (or food).

I too have surveillance and my dogs sleep all day. They also sleep really well all night. They also sleep for most of the time that I’m home.

The question isn’t how much they sleep, it is how much are they really awake!?

Eddie sleeps quite a bit, but has more lately. He hurt himself on Christmas, and after a couple rounds of anti-inflammatories, will be going in for x-rays tomorrow. I feel so bad for him. He’s gotten car sick after he got “fixed” as a pup, I just know he’s going to think “what did they cut off now” after sedation! Please say puppy prayers for my guy.

I work from home a lot too, and the dogs just sleep next to me as long as I’m on the laptop or phone. When I get up they’re always standing by for a tango romeo echo alpha tango, or a whiskey alpha lima kilo.

Yesterday, however, I had to go in to the office, and Captain Sweetie The Beagle Daddy was away also. During our absence Lily managed to pull down a bag of four apples and consume same. She was considerate though – she didn’t eat the plastic bag and she only barfed on the hardwood floor once!
