More fun with sticks (and branches)

Posted by laurie on March 23, 2012

I saw a woman walking a big yellow Lab the other day. The dog was carrying a stick in his mouth that must have been four feet long. Just trundling along, maybe even whistling for that matter, I couldn’t be sure. So, so cute.

He runs with scissors, too. Though not in his work clothes.

HAHAHAHAHAAA! Thank you for the laugh this morning. I too, have seen a dog on a walk carrying a stick. So adorable. Just walking along with his stick in his mouth, and his human by his side. šŸ™‚

Love both pictures! I see Phll alternates between working out with Beagles with a branch! Shake up the routine…

My Shotzy Girl LLLLUUUUUVVVVVSSSSS her “sticks”… And by sticks its anything the size of a large twig to firewood…. We have an oak tree in our backyard that provides an endless supply…
Not to mention the wood pile of BBQ and fireplace wood that we have… Now if I could only train her to bring in wood for the fire and stack it neatly on the hearth. My husband had to take away her latest stick as it was probably 4 to 5 feet long and she brought it through the dog door and trotted down the hall with it all the while dragging it against the walls…. When that happens, he always throws it in the fireplace…
She’s done that since she was a 9 week old puppy and the wood was as big as she was.
She’s a happy girl when she has her “sticks”….

Eddy loves his sticks too. He always grabs one when we go on walks and then he carries it until we get home. The stick could be 6 inches long or 4 feet long, he puts the stick down while he sniffs etc, but he picks it back up when he is ready to go. Not too long ago we had a 10 foot branch fall off our birch tree, Eddy tried to carry it around, but I think he decided it wasn’t worth the effort and he had better things to do.

LOL. Thanks for the morning laugh. I needed it. The best my Lucky does is to steal the wooden spoons from the dishwasher while she’s helping me with the dishes.

I wasn’t on the computer yesterday, so missed the discussion. When I was in 6th grade, one of my neighborhood friends told me that her beagle was having puppies & that I could have one. Toto was half beagle & half question mark ( probably Lab), & of course, we loved all of his beagle traits. Our beagles have been funny & loving & I can’t imagine having a dog who isn’t at least half beagle.

Laurie, thank you, thank you for the morning laugh. I needed that so much! Jordan’s kidney failure has progressed to the point where I now have to administer subcutaneous fluids 1x/day at home. He’s still relatively okay and hanging in there with a good quaulity of life (and he is such a good patient!), but it’s so sad to know we’re slowly heading to the end of the road. We’re all tough cookies — the vet is amazed that a 15-16 year old dog has actually survived (and thrived) 7 months and counting since initial diagnosis.

On a lighter note, since it’s important for all of us to keep our spirits up, my husband has given Josie a new nickname — “Heavy J” … she’ll be dropping her debut gansta rap record next month. Does anybody have any suggestions for good titles for gangsta beagle rap tunes?

Beagles are amazing. Kramer’s going on 2 months with his grim cancer diagnosis, and he’s surviving, most days thriving. 15-16 is remarkable. Keep on loving jordan. What a will to live. šŸ™‚

So sorry to hear about Jordan…. Sending poochie smoochies to Jordan from the Lash Pups….

J Dog puts da Bling in Beagle is my lame attempt at gangsta rap… šŸ™‚

Lot of beagle love to Jordan.

Can’t help with the gangsta rap, kind of out of my domain! But I’ll work on it šŸ™‚

Sending prayers and positive thoughts to Jordan and his loving family . . . hang in there, Jordan!

Libby and I send prayers and “Good Vibrations” to Jordan.

The rap below cannot possibly be sung to the tune of the Beach Boys “Good Vibrations.”

No Vet No Way – by Beagle Gangsta Rapper “Heavy J”

“Heavy J would do a cool beagle bay,
if she were on the street today.
But she’s inside, not goin’ for a ride,
not goin’ to the vet, so don’t even make a bet.
She’s just way too cool, Heavy J’s no one’s fool.”

      Aaarrroooo! Aaarrroooo!

My first beagle, Barney, loved to find sticks and bring them home when we were out on walks. On was so big he could barely move it, but with great difficulty he managed to drag it home

Mo was a big stick boy.

My brother’s various labs he’s had over the years have all been enamored by sticks–and sometimes things that *look* like sticks. I remember their yellow lab, Daisy, when she was a puppy: She would play something that looked a lot like bucking bronco with the stick. Pretty funny to see!

Thanks for the laugh. Phil is a good sport.

  10. Just wondering, if Sherman or Stanley through the stick would Phil run back with it in his mouth?
