Though no planning was involved, Phillip and I did tag-team napping yesterday afternoon. For a couple of hours one of us was sleeping and the other was resting up for our next nap. The weather was gorgeous and I spent a good deal of time out on the Taj Mah Patio, just looking at all the flowers and green.
Next Saturday we’re hosting a beaglefest. If I’ve not emailed you, please consider yourself invited and drop me a note for details. It’s from 1-4 PM on May 5th.

There was one beagle missing in the photos that Courtneay posted – Maggie! Apparently she was a little camera-shy. But not here, in these pics from yesterday – Maggie’s 8th birthday. Happy birthday, Maggie! Courtneay said, “These are some shots of her waiting patiently to gobble up some shredded wheat (see foreground). In the second shot, she continues to wait patiently, but the chop-licking and uncontrollable drooling has commenced!” I think that Nabisco could use these in their advertising.
The Township Council meets twice a month and they broadcast it on the local cable access channel. The Mayor couldn’t attend last night so the Deputy Mayor ran the meeting.
I’m going to ask for his autograph!

Please keep Uncle Bob and Nancy in your thoughts – they lost their 5-year old daschund Baronness yesterday morning. She’d been sick for just a few days and it turned out to be a pancreatic tumor. You know how much Bob loves Sherman — he loved his Pupadoodles even more.

Hi! We got home Friday night. Uncle Bob picked up the boys from Camp Lawrenceville so they were waiting for us. Huge thanks to camp counselors Courtneay and Lance, not only for taking such good care of the boys but for posting during the week so we could check in on our iPad (which I heartily endorse as a vacation Internet device). We missed the boys but never worried about them.
Anyway, yes, it IS this beautiful! We had a wonderful time. Cathy and Judy came with us and we met up with some people from last year. Unfortunately I could only dive once due to a cold I got right before we left, but there was still not enough time to do everything. I read two books: a science fiction book called Triggers (a big meh!), and Anne Tyler’s new novel, The Beginner’s Goodbye, which was wonderful. The food was equally wonderful, maybe even more so, and the weather was B+/A-.
I remembered this couple from last year. By 8 AM, they’d dragged their chairs close to the water and spent the next 8-10 hours in full sun worship, getting up only to rotate their chairs, have lunch, and (to their credit) reapply sunscreen.
When not in his pup tent or out for a walk, Stanley was glued to my side this weekend. Don’t worry, Stan! We’re staying home!

Stanley helped Lance bottle his latest batch of homebrew on Tuesday night. This pup was vigilant. It’s almost as if he knew there was a place for him at the “Baying Beagle Brewery.”
Sherman, on the other hand, was content to supervise from a distance…
…and Maggie actually washed her hands of the whole ordeal. She didn’t even stick around for her photo op.
The boys head home tomorrow. I think they’ve enjoyed their week at camp, but I’m sure they’ll be so happy to have Laurie and Phillip home!

The mid-April heat wave we’ve had here in NJ left me with three beagles who were too pooped to pop yesterday! With temperatures in the low 90s, the most activity we saw from them was the occasional walk from the couch to the back yard to see if the world had cooled off to a sensible temperature.
Of course, it’s never to hot to huddle up on the couch…
Of the three beagles, Stanley definitely has the most energy. Between naps, he stood on guard…watching the back yard vigilantly for signs of fun.
(We did manage a short walk with just the three beagles last night…once the sun was down. I’m hoping we haven’t missed our shot at another pack walk, but my friend is out of town for the next couple of days…perhaps we’ll be able to squeeze one in on Thursday night before the boys go home on Friday!)

The boys have settled in nicely. Stanley has treed many a squirrel and Sherman has claimed many a lap…and Maggie has been very busy keeping up with both of them!
Sherman takes the theme of “Beagle Camp” quite seriously as he curls up here in his very own “pup tent.” (Sorry…I couldn’t resist that one. And I just love this bed. It’s the closest thing I’ve seen to a lap substitute…which comes in handy when you have three beagles and only two laps.)
But, of course, he’ll take the real thing if he can get it…
A camp counselor’s work is never done! 🙂
I’m sorry to say that I forgot to bring the camera on Wednesday night when Lance and I took Sherman, Stanley and Maggie for a walk in the park with our friend/neighbor Kirsten and her two dogs, Hickory (a wire-haired dachshund) and Midge (a beautiful mix of what we think is beagle, corgi, whippet and who knows what else). Three humans, five dogs…and several onlookers with more than a few comments. Some asked if we were part of a parade. Others merely wished us a “howling good time.” We’re hoping to take another walk with the full pack next week. If we do, I’ll be sure to bring the camera!
Laurie and Phillip…I hope you’re having a wonderful time!
