Happy May Day!!! I woke up this morning BEFORE my alarm (highly unusual) and felt Bartles the Basset curled up at my knees… He slowly squirmed his way up until his head was next to mine and snuggled in….what a happy way to wake up! He snorfled and poked at me with his schnoz and gave me kisses….

  2. We have a very rainly May Day here in New Jersey. I woke to thunder and lightening. It would have been a nice day to stay in bed. My two – Buddy and Holly have completely different personalities. Buddy loves to sleep in ( curled up in the center of my part of the bed ) and won’t move unless you temp him with a treat, or ask him about 3 times , if he wants to go outside, and shake him. Sometimes, even then, he just lays there and looks at you. He is only 2+ years old, but sometimes acts like an old doggie. Holly -on the other hand is a ball of energy. As soon as she hears you move , or the alarm clock go off, she is up and in you face and licking you to wake up and take her out- now – now – now. When I swing my feet around to get out of bed, she is already bounding to the door. She is 1+ and not that much younger than Buddy. They sure do have very different sleeping and waking habits. She makes it difficult to try and sleep in, even on the weekends.

Very rainy here in Connecticut! But that’s okay, we still need the rain. The dogs did not want to go out this morning, except for Timmy, who always wants to go out.

Rainy and sleepy day here as well. I got home from the gym this morning and thought husband Rob was creating the loud snoring coming from the bedroom, but it turned out to be Josie. She just got allergies for the first time this year (the pollen is horrible, and she’s probably a bit stressed from all the crazy routine changes needed to accomodate managing Jordan’s chronic kidney failure), so I’m guessing the Benadryl has something to do with the soundness of her sleep. On the other hand, Jordan was hanging over the edge of the dog pillow at a 45 degree angle this morning, and the first thought that popped into my head when I saw that was, “Oh, if only he’d worn his seat belt …”.

Harper–he snorfled? I love that word! And I’ll bet snorfling feels really, really snuggly. 🙂

Yup snorfled… It’s that sweet sound between a sniff and a sigh and a snort and a snore.

I have used this word to describe the beagles’ sounds sometimes. Non-hound friends don’t get it! 🙂

It’s been raining in the UK almost non-stop for the last week! We have lots of rivers that have burst their banks, so many towns have floods. Not good weather for Beagles – they really don’t like getting wet! They both have coats, that were custom made to their exact measurements so they fit really well, but they both hate wearing them! Guess they must be fair weather Beags …… !!

You are right. Most hounds HATE getting wet! Once in a while you’ll find a beagle that doesn’t mind the rain, but it’s rare.

When we first got Clayton he HATED the rain. But over time he didn’t seem to mind it.

As long as it is not a torrential downpour, the 4 beagles will go out and do their chores. If anything rumbles or spits lightening–no deals, we’re outta here.

Now, my idea of heaven is taking the day off, getting the hubby off to work, and taking all my babies back up to bed. That’s when they are all ready to snuggle. They all cuddle up around me and off we go to night-night.

Lots of rain here, and in fact, tonight after I got home from work we ended up in the closet because we were under a tornado warning. We don’t have a basement, so we have to use the closet under the stairs as our ‘safe place’. The beags were NOT happy. I was less happy because I was trying to hold the two of them- which of course, didn’t work well. No damage, thankfully it passed us.

Last night it was raining so hard, Onyx looked out and backed away from the door. She usually goes out in anything.

The plus side of tonight’s experience is that I finally cleaned out the living room closet, so the next time we need to use it we have very little to move (time is of the essence after all!). While cleaning, I found the first collars we had for the beags when they were puppies. It was one of those ‘aww’ moments.

Can you dig some kind of underground shelter?
