Throughout my childhood my mother (like many Jewish mothers) urged me to marry a (nice!) Jewish doctor. Little had she known all the benefits that would accompany this. I’ve had a hacking cough for two weeks. Mike in the next office said his wife could hear me through the telephone (I shut my door after that). I’ve had no other symptoms and last week the doctor prescribed antihistamines in case it was an allergy. They didn’t work and the coughing got worse so I went back yesterday and was prescribed antibiotics, an inhaler, and codeine. And I had to get a chest x-ray at the hospital. Phillip was with me for part of my appointment and he told me to call him when I left so that his secretary could call “downstairs.” The hospital has an outpatient testing center (downstairs), where you sign in, then wait, get registered, get your bracelet, then wait, then eventually have your test. Well, a call was made and I was DONE in under twenty minutes! Phillip got the results right away and called me an hour before the doctor’s office did. The x-ray was “boring and normal”. Hooray! And I love my Jewish doctor!

Hope you feel better soon ! This is the worst time of the year for me with allergies. Hope they find out what is bothering you. Sending good thoughts your way. I agree – it is so nice to have a doctor in the family !

I get the same thing during allergy season mainly from Post Nasal Drip. If you have PND talk to your doctor about about a Nasal Spray like Flonase and then add a decongestant. Works for me. Feel better and Kudos to Dr. Phil 🙂

So glad it’s nothing serious Laurie and I hope you feel better soon! I’m trying to type this on my laptop with a beagle sprawled across my lap. It’s like he gets jealous of it and he takes it’s place to show it just who owns my lap! Cassie doesn’t really do laps, she prefers to snuggle against you, which is much more convenient when you want to use a laptop!

I call those bracelets “cha-ching” bracelets. Every time they are scanned, somebody pays. I used to get “sinus infections” (for lack of a better term) at the end of the allergy season. Always got antibiotics from my allergist in Milwaukee (about 60 miles away) because my local doctor wouldn’t prescribe them. Haven’t had a “sinus infection” in years. But it’s been a bad year for allergies. This is the first year in 15-20 that I’ve had symptoms. I hope I don’t get a “sinus infection” in the next week, ‘cuz I’m scheduled for a neck fusion next Friday.

You know, one of the Life Rules that I’ve come up with over the years is “someone in your family should be a physician”. The older I get, the more this is apparent. Preferably a physician with a beagle on his shoulder.

As Charles Schulz used to say, “Speak Softly, and Carry a Beagle!” The staff must have been surpised when they saw the good doctor arrive with a beagle on his shoulder. Maybe I will give that a try the next time I go to the doctor.
Laurie, hope you get over the cough soon, even if you never learn the cause. But, I’m sure glad you haven’t developed an allergy to beagles.

I’m not only still in ACL recuperation mode (great excuse for wearing shorts in the office 🙂 ) but am getting over a nasty ick (sore throat and stuffy head and cough)…. I don’t have allergies, so this is just being sick…
Now my poor darling hubby is getting it 😦

I had to laugh when you mentioned “a nasty ick”. We refer to it that was as well, as in, “I’ve got the ick (cough cough! hack hack! sniff, blow nose)”. Actually, through the stuffed up nose it usually sounds more like, “I’b god-dha uaick.” And I don’t know about your husband, but mine whines and moans a whole lot when he has the ick. Thank heavens he wasn’t that way with his elbow surgery.

The only thing better would be a Vet in the Family. I do have a plumber friend and for minor jobs she (yes SHE) only charges a six pack to a case of beer. Although the more serious stuff we pay cash.

Glad everything worked out. Thought it’s not been as bad for me this year in Michigan…I had that problem for years (about every other year) and after trial and error, my doctors concurred that I have “cough-variant” asthma. Asthma meds work for me where nothing else did. Only once have I had the regular sort of “attack,” and that was this past spring when everything was out at once. For once, since John’s cancer diagnosis, the trip to the ER wasn’t for him. They all assumed when we saw them that it was, because John was with me. Between gasps, I said…”No….me!” All the rest of the time I’ve had attacks, it’s been of the “cough so hard that organs might come out” or the “break the ribs” variety–which I’ve done a couple of times. The allergist would love it if I didn’t have dogs. Yeah, that’s gonna happen, not! But they’re okay with it. I find that a maintenance dose of allegra or something similar plus singulair works like a charm.
