Camp report #3 (and 5th metatarsal)

Posted by laurie on September 28, 2012

See! I told you Holly was pretty! She is a sweetheart, too, they both are.

After breakfast and again after dinner yesterday the three boys (plus Holly in the PM) chased and humped and had big drinks of water for almost an hour. Quite a commotion! I watched in all from the couch because, unfortunately, I broke my left foot on Wednesday morning. I was running on the canal when I stumbled and landed on the side of my foot. Interestingly, I did the very same thing exactly thirty years ago. You’d think I’d learn. No cast, but it is elevated for the short term and they gave me one of those boots so I’ll be able to walk.

I finished a wonderful mother/daughter novel called Amy and Isabelle, by Elizabeth Strout, and am now reading her recent book, Olive Kitteridge. Oh, and while I’m making recommendations: pistachio encrusted chicken breasts. Food process the pistachios: it’s fantastic.

Oh Laurie! So sorry about your foot 😦 Hopefully it will heal quickly. The good point is you’ll get in more reading, though less beagle walking is a downside….
The beagle fun sounds great, though I’m exhausted just reading about it!

What an adorable close-up of Holly! And the last shot of tired beagles makes me want to kiss and cuddle them all!

Laurie, too bad about your accident. I’m sure the beagles (during their quiet rest times) and your book will keep you good company while your foot heals.

    Happy Friday to all!

So very sorry about your foot, Laurie! I am glad you have those beautiful hounds to keep you company, and good books. Please rest, and thank you for posting, despite your injury!

So sorry about your foot! My Captain did this in July and he finally took the boot off himself this week…though I have chided him for it and he WAS limping. He’s a runner too and the doc said he had a choice, put up with the boot and just go with it and get back to running in 6 months OR don’t do the boot and taking it easy and never run again. His choice. He’s such a bad patient. LOL. Luckily, Laurie, you have a doc at home who can remind you constantly to take it easy and you also like to swim. I sure hope you feel better soon. Amazing how much bother a small bone can be, isn’t it?

All those doggies are gorgeous and you’re right, Holly is a glamour girl for sure. I love how Shermies little dainty toes are up on Stan’s back while they sleep. Aww….

So sorry to hear about your foot, Laurie! I’m still a gimp (and will be for another 4 months) so I feel your pain (so to speak tho mines the knee πŸ™‚ )
Holly is quite the little beauty!!! And like Christy, love that last picture with the paw up
Hmmm if you pile all 4 beagles up, would that be enough cushion to elevate your foot ??? πŸ™‚

ouch. At least you have plenty of live entertainment. I’m surprised my dogs haven’t broken every bone in my body.

Sorry to hear about your foot, Laurie! I did the same to my left foot 19 years ago. even managed to break the “cyborg boot” my Podiatrist couldn’t believe that one…. Sending speedy healing your way! Beagle therapy will help πŸ˜‰ Yes, Holly is a beautiful Beagle girl, it must be fun there at Camp Kramer!

Couldn’t leave comments yesterday for some reason…….every time I tried I got the “website not available” screen. I so enjoy seeing everyone’s babies, and especially loved Oscar’s drooping ears – one of my favorite beagle looks.

So sorry about your foot, Laurie! It looks like Camp Kramer is carrying on, however, in spite of the injury.

And the chicken idea from last week – with the bread crumbs, parmesan and mozarella – was a hit at our house last night. Didn’t actually have seasoned bread crumbs, so crushed up garlic flavored salad croutons instead – worked perfectly. Appreciate the ideas!

    • Thanks. Oscar is a special beagle (I know they all are special) He came to us to heal our hearts after Rosco passed away. His father is from England, so he supposedly has an “English Look”. Shorter snout, longer ears. He was supposed to be 15″ but is about 18″. Oops. Spencer’s dad is English too, but different father, and doesn’t have the Houndy look like Oscar.

Sorry to hear about your foot. I hope the beagles are taking good care of you! At least you will get lots of snuggle time in if you are on the couch.

    Yes, Holly is a beauty!

I read Olive Kitteridge this summer and hated it. I only read one book at a time, and I dreaded picking it up and trudging through it. My best friend had the same reaction, but I know others have raved about it.

I’m back from vacation, but haven’t been posting much. We had a lovely time in Orlando, although it was nice to come home to the QUIET of my beagles. Yes, after spending a week with a very active 2 year old and just as active 6 year old (who are up no later than 6:30 EVERY MORNING!), the beagles’ actions are nice and quiet.

So sorry to hear about your foot Laurie, hope your up and about real soon.
As always, we love all of those very cute beagle pictures.

Oh Laurie, I’m sorry about your poor foot! As a runner, I just HATE having to take time off to heal, especially since the healing seems to take a lot longer these days. Any word on how long you’ll be benched?

It’s been nearly 8 weeks since Gomez’s knee surgery and he’s almost off crate rest. He sends best beagly wishes and tail wags to both Laurie and Harper. Hang in there!

I’m reading Olive Kitteridge right now too and I’m loving it. Wouldn’t miss seeing the beagles every day, since mine went over the Rainbow Bridge. Take care of the foot, Laurie.

  16. Laurie, take care of your foot. I hope you don’t have any scuba diving trips planned real soon!

It’ sounds like you are having too much fun over their at beagle camp!

  17. Owww! Sorry about the foot. I’ve broken that very same metatarsal–back in about 1991. I had a cast up to the knee, believe it or not. Didn’t make sense to me, but there you go.

Thanks for the book recommendations. I have Olive Kitteridge on my nook but haven’t gotten to it yet. I’ll have to remember the other book that you’ve read for future. Right now, I wanted something familiar to just “calgon-take-me-away” so I’m reading book one of the Mitford series. Read the series a number of years ago. Also on my to-read list: Dearie, which is a recent book out about Julia Child. Like many of the books I end up reading, I heard about it on NPR.

Your house guests are quite lovely!

In case anyone is checking the site, and especially Audrey, I just read (California Sunday paper) about a tornado hitting Barcelona on Friday…. Hope you’re okay over there!!!!!
    Stay safe!
