Ever eat a pine tree?

Posted by laurie on December 12, 2012

I love Grape Nuts. Especially with raisins on board. Stanley loves cereal just as much as I do. I always give him the bowl with a little left over (Sherman gets a handful out of the box) when I’m done. Stanley loves his walks almost as much as cereal. The other morning while I was enjoying my cereal, Phillip harnessed up the boys and headed towards the door. My poor conflicted beagle. He very much wanted to go with Phillip but he REALLY wanted to wait for his cereal. As with most things Stanley, it was quite funny to watch. Of course I sped up my breakfast and let Stan finish it, after which he jumped immediately into the car. Didn’t even put his bowl in the sink.

FUNNY story about poor Stanley! When our dear beagle babies get into food-related habits they are VERY hard to overcome!

Thanks again to everyone who left the great comments yesterday about my two boys!

raisins? do they get the raisins? I keep seeing the story about how bad they are for dogs…… ?

Ours get conflicted if one of us is eating and the other walks into the kitchen (the beagles believe you only go into the kitchen to get food). It’s funny to watch them look from one to the other to see where the best food prospects are.

I love grape nuts too! My mom never let us have any of the sugary sweet kid cereals… Grape nuts, corn flakes, bran flakes, raisin bran and rice krispies were all we got… As an adult I tried a box of sugary sweet cereal and didn’t like it :). Mom REALLY does know best….
I love that you share your food with the boys…

I usually eat my sausage and fruit at my computer BUT when the dogs hear the occassional rustle of the danish box open, they are right there beside me waiting!! They are such goofballs!

This is known in our house as The Ultimate Beagle Internal Conflict. The person proposing the non-cereal-finishing activity just has to wait.

I also let the dogs have the leftover milk and grape nuts crumbs. I snork up all the raisins (or dried cranberries) so all that’s left is sweet milk and a few nuggets, but you’d think that was steak & lobster. Why do I do it? Because they look so cute lapping from the same bowl just like baby puppies.

As I write this Lily is sitting next to me gazing worshipfully at my toast.

Baci would also agree that a schlorp of cereal milk is one of life’s pleasures. The other day I was cleaning out the refrigerator. I kept going back and forth, removing containers to identify the contents and wiping down the shelves.. Baci about exploded with confusion when none of this resulted in actual food to eat. We kept tripping over each other.

I love reading stories like this, amazes me how alike our beagles are. Eddy is offended when he doesn’t get a treat at a drive-thru window. He always get compliments, but you can’t eat those.
I’m a Grape Nuts girl too!

We have had JB for 8 years now and Cassie for 2 and in all that time we have never had a meal entirely to ourselves – we always give in to those big brown eyes watching pleadingly from next to the table. And they’re expert bowl lickers (puddings and breakfast). Their world revolves entirely around food!!

Rusty Bob is now 14. He is blind, diabetic (two shots of insulin a day), can’t hear well, and his back legs fold up so he has to have help to stand….BUT…there is NOTHING wrong with his nose. The beagle that will eat anything can SMELL the fridge opening from another room. Even if you are super quiet with your snack…he will point that little head in the air, sniff, and nail you with a bark that you aren’t sharing! He has been on bonus days for almost two years now. We stare at his belly to make sure he is still breathing every mornging and know that the day he ignores a snack will most likely be his last.

I like grape nuts also. I heard a comedian say “I really like grape nuts, but sometimes I forget to add milk the night before”

Laurie, you crack me up. So funny and I can SO relate with Kramer. Gandolf must be more of a shepherd than a Beagle. 🙂 He’s content with just about anything.
