Who goes there?

Posted by laurie on December 14, 2012

Last night’s dinner was this spinach and potato frittata and both of us REALLY liked it. Well, make that four of us because the boys got to lick the plates. After dinner, if Phillip does not have to go to a meeting, he watches TV in the hottub for an hour or so. And last night we both went upstairs early. Phillip watched a western and I read Life Among Giants. Not as good as the frittata, but definitely a page turner. Stanley was under the covers and Sherman between our heads. The horses in the movie started making horse noises, and soon thereafter a rumbling growl came from under. It got louder and louder and Stanley emerged, ears back, looking around, being ferocious. Of course he had to run outside and bark for awhile, and after a few minutes Sherman decided to provide backup. He didn’t last long though and was quickly back inside on the bed. We are grateful to Stan for his vigilance. But Stanley? Shut up!

Stan the man-on patrol for errant horses! Your stories make me laugh!

      Agreed! 🙂

Also agreed! Josie initially would go nuts if there were cats on TV, or barking dogs, but she gave it up promptly once she realized they weren’t really there (Sniffing around the TV and not finding anything helped dispel any doubts). Jordan usually didn’t react to animals on TV, but if a doorbell rang, he’d race to our front door while bellowing his head off.

    Love the tug o War!
I’ve always said, with dogs you really don’t need an alarm 🙂

Fritattas are one of my FAVE “go to” meals… I actually make them in large muffin cups and then I take them to work for breakfasts… Im on the low carb diet, so mine typically have sausage, spinach and cream cheese…
Although last week I didn’t have spinach so I used canned green beans … Sounds odd but I need my veggies and it tastes pretty good!

I’ve lost 10 lbs since September (after laying around for a month after knee surgery and my darling husband bringing me my favorite treats.)

I’ll say , like the idea of using muffin cups. Thanks!

Thanks!!!! It’s a struggle for me but I’m trying to be healthy …. (for instance today is bagel/donut day at work…. I love them both and can’t have either :()

My darling hubby came up with the brilliant idea of the muffin cups…. Makes them easy to transport… Even when I’m in the field and not office, I can pop two in the microwave and then eat them as I’m driving….

Great idea – I’m going to have to dig out my muffin trays.

What is it about these beagles? They can’t hear me pull in the drive because they are asleep but let a twig snapped during the middle of the night and the howling begins!! My husband now gets up and checks because one time Sweetums was barking and barking…it was our car being broken into.

I always tell the dogs “It’s on TV”. Even, sometimes, if it’s not. They’re not crazy about high-fidelity surround sound.

Ditto for us too…. We tell JD, Bartles, and sometimes Shotzy, “IT’S ON TV” exactly that phrase, when they go off because of a doorbell, or Cat, or another dog or fireworks, etc etc etc….(when it’s on TV, that is 🙂 )

That’s hilarious! Same exact words, pronounced in a low-key, (hopefully) calming voice.

  5. Doorbells on TV. Ugh Should be against the law.

    • Cathy, Gomez, Lily & Mr. Peabz said

Oh yes. My dingbats even respond to TV doorbells that have a different melody and different tones. Doesn’t matter – they know it’s a doorbell and therefore it’s OUR doorbell and there’s a guy with pizza right outside.

  6. I love the tug of war. One of my favorite things is to see my two beagles playing together.

I love the tug of war. Ours have been playing it a lot recently with Bumble, a toy we picked up at PetSmart. Cobalt usually isn’t into toys, but he loves the Bumble. They have had many ferocious battles over it. So we thought we’d buy a backup- both of our PetSmarts are sold out. Of course- because I was telling everyone how much they loved this toy. Grandma to the rescue-she found them at her store in NY! I love to watch them play just as they did when they were puppies.
