SPF 30

Posted by laurie on February 22, 2013

The boys hang out on the couch with me most of the day but early afternoon they migrate to the kitchen where the sun comes streaming in.

Speaking of the sun, Phillip and I are winging our way this morning to sunny Florida for 4 days. We’re visiting friends who have a condo on a little island off the west coast. We weren’t sure I’d be up for the trip but I am and we’re looking forward to the warmth! Sherman and Stanley are staying at their friends Buddy and Holly’s house. Thanks, Audrey and Kevin!! I’ll post an open discussion on Monday and will be back on Tuesday. According to the surgeon, my wound will be completely closed by then!

I’m sure the boys will have a great time with Buddy & Holly, although how much sunbathing they’ll do, I don’t know…

Have a lovely time in Florida! Before we had beagles we used to holiday in the US twice a year, usually in Florida. We used to stay in Naples and spent our days walking on the beach and sampling the food in the excellent restaurants there. Now we holiday in the UK, in cottages with the beagles, and whllist I love doing that, some Florida sunshine and to see those fantastic beaches again (especially Sanibel and Captiva) would be marvellous!

Hey Laurie – I live on the west coast. Are you staying on Captiva, Sanibel or Marco?

  12. Report from vacation camp:Yesterday afternoon- Sherman, Stanley, Buddy and Holly were all happy to reunite again. After much running around and getting use to the doggy door for Stan and Sherm, everyone settled down for a nap. At dinner time every dug in and ate like they had not been fed for days. After dinner there was a lot more play- between Stan, Bud ahd Holly. they took turns trying to dominate each other to see who was going to be top dog, while good old Sherman just curled up in a doggy bed and fell asleep. He knows he top dog. Our house is only about a dozen yards from our steet. Laurie and Phillip have a very very lond driveway – so Stanley may not be use to all the coming and going on a busy street. So far – he has set up howling at the school kids coming home, the school bus, the mailman, and many dog walkers and their pets who go up and down our block. He can’t tear himself away from the front window and has to sould the alert about everyone. Buddy and Holly join in from time to time. It’s a good thing that Sheman can’t hear a thing. He is just such a sweetie. He just naps through it all.
Bed time was early. Stanley found Buddy’s Cozy Cave and claimed it as his own for the night. The other three staked claim on spots on the bed in our room. It left a little room for Kevin and me. Note to self: close the doggy door at night to prevent 3 am hunting. All of them went out for a stroll around 3 am and I think they woke the whole neighborhood. I am sure there were some deer, or racoon or ground hog that got their attention. I awoke this morning by being licked on both sides of my face- on one side Holly and the other Stanley. They had my arms pinned down under the covers. Buddy and Sherman were on top of the covers by my legs – so I was being held hostage in bed by the four of them and unable to move. I finally had to ask them if they wanted ” treats” and to go ” out” to get them to move off of me. After breakfast they all played and ran in and out of the house for a while. In the back yard, we have a french bulldog behind us and a black lab on the side – so much barking and fence running ensued for most of the morning. Now it is nap time and all is quiet. Each one is sleeping in a different room of the house. Wish I could take a nap with them instead of having to work from home.

Aren’t dogs amazing?! They always know where the warmest most comfortable place in the house is. It’s almost like they have a special gene for that. Or maybe they can just smell out the best places!
