Jackson, Samuel and Luke

Posted by laurie on March 21, 2013

My apologies to Therese for misplacing this email. Jackson passed away on January 29. Therese writes:

jackson

It is with great sadness however, that I tell you that we lost our other little beagle boy, Jackson, on January 29th, he was 16 years old, and made it to one year almost exactly from the passing of his older brother Samuel Lee Dean. We adopted Jackson when Samuel was a year old to be Samuel’s best buddy and he took his job seriously, there was no where Samuel went that Jackson didn’t go – including several escapes from the yard that lead to tours of the neighborhood (once he was even escorted home in a police car!). Jackson loved to go out in the yard in the middle of rain and thunder only to come back in several times to get dried off under a large bath towel – then run back out the doggie door again! He barked a beautiful song with his brother and sang whenever he got his ears rubbed. Jackson was a true beagle, NEVER missing out on any food, he loved long walks with his brother and finding any piece of paper to carry along the way. His favorite place was on the end of the couch by me his beaglemom. He loved playing in the fresh snow and burying his nose in it smelling the ground below. We miss you and your brother so very much, but take solace that you are both free of pain now, running and barking again with each other!

And this is Luke:

luke

This is our Luke Anthony whom we rescued last year after the passing of our Samuel Lee Dean. Luke weighed all of 12 pounds when we brought him home and had a giant gash on the inside of his hind leg. He was house-trained and quickly learned from brother Jackson, how to use the doggie door. We worried someone had beat the bark out of him, but after the first week he proved that was false when a stranger crossed the other side of the street! He loves to lay on his back with all legs in the air, cuddle on blankets, and chew EVERYTHING, a pair of slippers, 3 pair of eyeglasses, woodwork, rugs, boxes of Kleenex, toilet paper, and towels. He’s not too keen on car-rides yet, but neither was brother Jackson when he was young – this too shall pass!

I wish to extend my sincere sympathy on the loss of Jackson. It is a good thing to think of him across the Bridge with his older brother and all DD family members which have passed.

Luke is a fine looking boy.

Therese, so sorry to hear of your loss of both Jackson and Samuel. Jackson had that wonderful senior-muted coat that you know means he was soft as could be. I’m so glad that Luke had the opportunity to learn from big brother Jackson how to be a(n) (almost-but-not-quite-yet) well-behaved member of your family. Thank you for adopting a boy who obviously needed your love and care!

    • Therese Rasnick said

Thanks Kaye! Jackson did have the most wonderful soft lucious coat and was a great big brother to Luke, he trained him how to use the doggie door. Today, Luke came running in with an icile to eat and then proceeded to shiver and cry – another trait his big brother had!

Sadness reading about your lovely memories of Jackson, then I scroll down and see the sweet picture of your little Luke. What a beautiful beagle boy!

THanks Angela, I know it’s something all us parents of 4-leggers have shared, the price of loving comes high but with great rewards!

You painted a wonderful picture of Jackson and how all of you benefitted from being a family. My heart is out to you on your loss. Luke looks like such a cutie. Perhaps he might get a sibling in the future!

Therese, we are so very sorry for the loss of your boys Jackson and Samuel .

Luke looks right at home and mighty cute. Now it’s his turn to teach another beagle how to be good.

It took our rescued beagle Daisy 6 weeks before she barked, we thought the same thing that they must have beat the bark out of her. It will be 2 years in April and she still is not as vocal as her brother Dexter.

Jackson and Samuel are so dear. They must certainly be having a great time playing on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. Luke is clearly a sweetheart ensconced in the corner of the couch or chair. Is that his favorite spot or is anywhere he settles his favorite spot? Please let us know if you get a rescued beagle companion for Luke. He might like having a cohort in crime. Bless all of your hearts.

So sorry to hear about Jackson; he looked such a lovely boy. Luke Anthony looks adorable and it’s wonderful he now has a loving home with people who will chase all those bad memories away for him – our Cassie likes to roll on her back and have her belly rubbed too!

Thanks to Laurie for posting the photos of our beagle boys, I logged on today and was at first confused to see them thinking I was in my photo file then realized what a wonderful tribute our friends in NJ had done for us. We have watched the Kramer family from the first day we got our Samuel Lee Dean, and gone thru their happiness and sorrows that sharing lives with our 4-leggers brings.
They have helped us, trained us, advised us, and now shared the tears our heartbreak brings.
THANK YOU Laurie, Phillip, and all our friends who love and have-loved our beagle boys and girls
