Welcome Lady

Posted by laurie on April 29, 2013

Susan (from DE) writes:

We are once again a two dog household! “Lady” arrived yesterday, she’s 9 years old (Josie is 13!) and as you can see, a little smaller than Josie. They’re getting along fine, but aren’t really “hanging out” together just yet (Except in the kitchen, of course!).

Don’t let Lady’s name, petite stature and demure posing for the camera fool you … this 25 pound critter is more beagle than both Josie and Jordan ever were. Rob had to “bear proof” the kitchen, so now we have child safety latches on the cabinets where there is food or trash, and the dishwasher must be thoroughly clicked shut if there are dirty dishes in it. And apparently, Josie and Jordan really never alerted us to exactly how many squirrels there are in the woods around the house — apparently millions, and a beagle really should be baying at them regularly throughout the day.

Lady came with a small crate, and that’s her bedroom of choice. However, it’s a rule that all unattended pillows in the house are Josie’s, and this afternoon we found her curled up asleep inside Lady’s crate, testing out her pillow. I thought we were going to have to call the fire department to bring the jaws of life to get her out, it was kind of a tight squeeze!

Pin a rose on your nose and bless you for giving Lady a home. She looks wonderful.

I think she’s adorable! Congratulations. Where did you get her?

Karen, a friend of a friend at a vet’s office sent out the mass email blast trying to help Lady find a new home. Her owners were downsizing and couldn’t take her along. We worked directly with her owners after that, so we got a lot of information about what she’s used to, and all of her personal items to help with her transition. Both she and Josie are doing fine after 2 days now. :->

Congratulations Susan!!!! (and Rob and Josie).
Lady is quite a pretty little girl.
Bear proofing the kitchen — too funny… Sounds like she’s a little dynamo!
In our household, the girls have always seemed to be more accepting .., but I think it’s cause the “first dog” JD is quite alpha….

So adorable! Congratulations! I met a 1-2 year old beagle over the weekend and the owner was wondering when he might slow down and lose some of the puppy craziness. I told him “probably around age 12…”

    • Susan in DE said

      …. Yup, if he’s lucky!

    • 12??? I’m still waiting at 15! The craziness might not be all the time, but try to tell a 15 yr old beagle he shouldn’t run around the backyard and run laps around the house doesn’t work! Of course the benefit of the puppy sighting is that he sleeps it off for the rest of the day and into the next!

Congrats Lady on finding your forever home! May you and Josie have many fun tails and enjoy eachother’s company for many years to come.

Congratulations Susan! It’s so great you could give her a home and I’m really happy to hear that Josie has some help with the squirrel problem!

That is so funny that you might have needed the jaws of life!! How dare those squirrels walk across your yard or climb one of your trees!!

What a gorgeous Lady and fantastic that a golden oldie has found a new home! We nearly dognapped a Basset hound whilst we were on holiday last week – she belongs to the owners of the cottage we rented and her name is Penelope (great name!). She’s 18 months old and meets and greets all new arrivals at the cottage by standing in the lane and wagging her tail. Apparently she tags along on walks and has been out all day with some people – we could have brought her home, she was so cute!

  16. Great news. Nothing better than two beagles.

I finished Robert Crais’s first three novels. I think Harper told me about him. I love his writing. He has the same semi-warped humor I have. I’m visiting my mom in about a week and we always go to the used book store by her place. I have my list ready.

Yay!!!! Yes I did tell you about R Crais…. So so glad to hear that you enjoy his humor. I was inspired and started to reread them from the beginning. I love his humor too… And his grit…

  17. Spencer has a polyp In his rectum about two inches up. It is attached by a stem that is too large for a scope to take out. I took him to a specialist but apparently the doggie scopes they have here don’t cut and cauterize like the human scopes. So they suggested a operation that pushes the rectum out, then they cut and stitch it up. Sounds just dreadful. I haven’t been to that specialist yet. I keep hoping it will go away. If it wasn’t for the bleeding I would delay for a long while. He keeps straining trying to pass it. Any great suggestions out there?

    • Sue ~ Barney , Jodi, & Huggy Bear's Mom said

Poor little man, wish there was an alternative. Keep us posted.

    • laurie said

Polyps don’t go away, so get Spencer to the surgeon to find out more about the operation before the polyp grows so more. I was very scared when my Spenser had his anal tumor/gland removed but it went fine. And as someone who has recently studied the anatomy of the colon, pushing out the rectum a couple of inches seems doable to me.

      • Thanks Laurie. There is one more vet that has a scope here but I’m not too hopeful that it is the kind that will work. I’ll probably tackle this when I get back from a quicky visit to my mom & dad.. I’ll let you know what happens.

    • harperlea said

Oh poor Spencer!!!! Whisky strained when she had her tumor… She looked like she was in so much pain…. I think the surgery would be better sooner …..
Good luck and keep us posted!!!!

Congratulations Susan, Rob. Josie and Lady! Josie and Lady do not look their age! She seems right at home, can’t wait to hear about the fun 🙂

Lady is a darling! I’m so glad you gave this senior gal a good home. Give the girls some time, and I’m sure dear Josie will adjust very well to her new sister.

Lady is so sweet. Isn’t is great to adopt a senior? We adopted Ginger in July (she was 6 at the time). She is a good girl, but a real pistol when it comes to the kitchen. My daughter has a senior lady Doberman and poor Lexy is frightened of this little 13 inch Beagle!!!! Josie will adjust. Brady and Ginger adjusted to each other quickly.

Congrats-we adopt seniors and love them so much…the jaws of life comment cracked me up!
