Please bear with me while I make a public service announcement: a Beagle website is just the place to mention a wonderful organization called Beagle Freedom Project. They are the folks who have freed many Beagles from their lives as “lab rats”. This lovable, funny, faithful hound that we so adore is put through who knows what in the name of “research”. They even took nursing moms and babies out of a lab–the puppies had already been tested on. They have a great website and there are adoptable Beagles posted on there (they are in foster homes, learning how to be real dogs). Please, at least take a minute and be grateful for these folks for doing what they do.

Yes, I support them as well. They do wonderful work. Never thought of mentioning it her. Thanks for the PSA.

  2. While I enjoyed the PSA and will keep that in mind for my next beagle, I am curious how little Baxter is fairing after his surgery. Hope he is back to his rambuctious self soon.

Julie – JB & Cassie’s Mum in England: I can’t imagine how hard it was NOT to dognap Penelope (great name)…. I love our Bartles Basset — he has so many sweet/cute/happy/Basset expressions… if I had seen him as an 18-month old pup I would have stolen him, I’m sure (we THINK he’s around 4ish… he’s a rescue, so we don’t really know)! In fact, up til now, Bartles hasn’t shown any interest in tennis balls… but he wants to be in on the action when I’m throwing for Shotzy & JD, so now he’s chasing the balls… I’m also working (training) him to sit instead of galloping over to me and jumping up on me for attention… it’s 50/50 right now, but he’s getting better 🙂

NJ: I think this is a perfect forum for the Beagle Freedom Project! I completely support saving those Beagles and teaching them how to be “real” dogs.
I swear, if I could adopt every single dog out there that needs a good home, I would in a heartbeat! Of course, my husband would divorce me and I’d become known as the “Crazy Dog Lady”… 🙂

Harperlea, we sound like ladies with lots in common! I too support any organisation that frees beagles from the hell of laboratories – we have an action group here in the UK that are trying to shut down the last breeding facility that breeds beagles especially for lab work. Much power to them and to the US organisations doing the same work.
