Foodies

Looks like the boys are getting a special after-our-dinner treat. What could it be?

may15b

Peas!

may15c

Lots and lots of peas.

may15d

You would think that Stanley had not eaten in five days the way he vacuumed up his bowl of peas.

So much clearer

I had Lasik surgery in 2003. I went from being -9.00 to 20/20 vision literally overnight. Having worn glasses since the second grade, this was thrilling beyond belief. To wake up and see everything clearly! To throw out the thick glasses and the contact lens accoutrements! Unfortunately, after a few years I started to squint and to make a long story short I now wear -3.50 contacts. My eye doctor said it is very rare for eyes to regress after Lasik and unfortunately my cornea is not thick enough for a repeat procedure. It was fun while it lasted. But what’s up with this “rare” stuff and me? First my eyes, then my (even rarer) cecal volvulous (i.e., colon twisting). What’s next? I don’t want to know.

Look alikes

There must be at least a dozen shots of Spenser over the years in this same exact position. I’m sure this is universal, at least among everyone here, that just a glimpse or sound from one of your beagles often evokes a memory of a beagle past.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there. We’re celebrating with Phillip’s mom in Connecticut. See you on Sunday, Gitty!

Beaglefest part 2

Posted by laurie on May 8, 2013

pack

That’s Harry in the middle. He’s 16 months old and I think the best way to describe him is EXHUBERANT, bolded, italicized and all in caps. Lots of energy and still a bit lacking in social skills. Cute as all heck, though.

audrey

This is Audrey with her buddy Buddy. Phillip calls him “Buddy bud bud bud bud”. He’s a beagle/basset, which is what you’d get if my sister and I adopted a dog together (joke).

karen

Here’s Karen S. with (left to right) Daisy Mae, Blue and that New Jersey sex offender you’ve heard about, Timmy.

A good time was had by all

Posted by laurie on May 6, 2013

people

We’ve been hosting beaglefests for more than ten years and this was the largest. About 60 people and 40 dogs. The weather was nothing short of stunning. Sunny and about 70 degrees.

subs

Phillip ordered three 6-foot subs. Two and a half were eaten.

door

As always, the beagles gathered at the door. It’s not easy to open a sliding glass door without a few beagles running in. And even harder to corral them and push them back out. By the way, that’s Audrey’s Holly on the left.

fun

All the dogs had fun. Some more than others.

twins

One of these cuties is Sherman and one is April. Can you tell who is who?

bobSherm

Beaglefests tire out everyone, humans and dogs.

Wish us luck

Stanley is going to have a whole lot more to howl about on Sunday when we host our annual SOS Beagle Rescue beaglefest. I let the signup list get ahead of itself and it looks like we’ll have 60-70 people. I don’t know how many beagles because quite honestly, I’m afraid to count. We usually get one six-foot sub but this time Phillip ordered three. He was gunning for a 12′ sub because that would be so impressive. Men!
