All is good

Certain people worry if I don’t have the DD up by 8:30, so to those I say, “Don’t worry!” I woke up this morning with an upset stomach so I went back to bed and woke up all better.

Happy Fourth of July to my U.S. friends! I’ll be back on Friday. Tonight and tomorrow I have to study for my annual Bill of Rights quiz.

  1. Looks like Sherman is looking to see what the stomach problem is also. Glad you are feeling better. Happy 4th of July and I hope your quiz is not too tough this year !

Ah, yes. Some of us WERE beginning to worry 🙂

Glad to hear you’re feeling better. Upset tummies are no fun, but I see you had a dedicated little nurse with you.

Happy Fourth of July to all!

Glad to see you have your portable hot water bottle!!

Happy 4th, everyone!! To our friends in the UK asking about the hot weather, it depends on what part of the US you are in. A lot of us are on the Atlantic coast, and we seem to be experiencing more of the weather situation you had last year, where it just won’t stop raining! In our area, we had a record-breaking June with about 10″ of rain, I think … and it continues.

Laurie, glad to know you have an nice warm beagle-shaped hot water bottle for your stomach ache! Jordan used to be a great snuggler for stuff like that. Lady and Josie, not so much!

Bill of Rights: All persons have the right to three (or four) beagles!

REMINDER: Some dogs run and hide when hearing big booms. Please keep your beagles on leashes the next few days. Also, I use a TAGG GPS collar. It sends alerts, locations, etc to my PC, smartphone. And tracks the dog. I don’t work for the company.Just a very satisfied user. It’s relatively inexpensive, with an $8/mo fee for access to Verizon (?) wireless. Look for the package deal to save $$ that has the device and pre-paid access. And you can stop the service at anytime.

Amen to keeping a close eye and leash on your dogs. Mine are very scared of the fireworks and I’m planning an evening in the back bedroom with all the shades down, a fan running and some soothing music on my laptop. Oh, and three terrified beagles trying to climb me. Humbug on fireworks!

I think Laurie has study buddies! Happy Independence Day, have a safe, relaxing day 🙂

Susan, it is the same here in St. Louis…rain, rain, rain. Although, I’m trying not to complain, last year we had terrible drought and heat. Yesterday, I wore long pants and a long sleeve shirt, very strange behavior for July in this part of the country.

This year there will be an essay question

Oh boy …. watch out, Laurie! Mr. Man might have been a better study buddy for this year’s exam, rather than Stan or Sherman!

I’m on the west coast and it is indeed hot here, but the biggest difference for us is that it’s gone on as long as it has. We normally get some 95+ days during the summer, but it’s usually only a day or two and then the onshore breeze (our natural air conditioning) cranks up again. This time it’s 5 days and counting (and no one is counting more than the local utility company) and the only breeze is hot as a convection oven.

We’re supposed to get back to our normal low-80s later this week, thank goodness. Happy Independence Day to all the US Beaglers!

Ditto here on the central west coast… 94 at my house yesterday (84 10 miles away)
I love the heat tho, I do tell my pups to drink lots of water while I’m at work 🙂

Awwww – what a sweet, sweet picture. And I am glad you are feeling better. And I worry too. Did you ever think you’d have such a following? 🙂 We love your site.

Happy 4th July to all in the US! Cathy, I hope you get some cooler weather this week. To all of you with rain, rain, rain we in the UK feel for you because our little island nearly got washed away last year!! Interestingly they said it was due to the jet stream being in the wrong position and dragging low pressure over us for most of the year. They said on our news this morning that the jet stream is to blame for the hot temperatures in the US, so maybe it’s in the wrong position and is causing all your weird weather at the moment! Anyway you all stay cool, dry and enjoy Independence Day!

Isn’t it nice to know so many people and their beagles care about you Laurie?
I have one that wants to chase the fireworks, one that is very afraid and one that doesn’t care either way. Don’t you know it’s the biggest one that is the scaredy dog?
I will have a 55lb.Bassett/LAB on my lap all night. Plus in my neighborhood fireworks is an all week afair, they have already starated 😦
Keep your babies and yourselves safe. Happy 4th of July!!!

Glad your tummy Is better Laurie!

Fireworks have been going off all week in my neighborhood too 😦
The lab just barks his dang fool head off and usually I can keep the other three calm… Thank goodness hubby and I are staying home so I can keep a close eye on our pups and cat….
I also douse the pups with DAP (Dog Appeasing Pheromone ) spray. It seems to help a bit.

  14. Gunner and Bailey's mom Anne said

Can you buy DAP anywhere? I’d love to calm Gunner down when we have guests, if Mr Barky Bark can be calmed down.

Happy 4th Laurie, thanks for all the great photos and glad you are feeling better overall too!

We do worry. 🙂 Nice to see you guys. I could never get my dog to sleep on the couch with me – and he would only do naps on the bed, not the whole night. He just wanted to be RIGHT NEXT TO the bed.

  16. I feel so blessed to have adopted my two beagles that have no thunder/fireworks issues ( yet ) They are 3 and 4 years old and I hope as they get older – the do not start becomming scared. When it thunders – Buddy just looks up at the ceiling as if to say ” what’s going on up there ? ” and Holly just goes about her daily napping.
Maybe if they were used as hunting dogs when in Tennessee – they are use to the firing of guns and therefore are ” immune ? Who knows – but I feel so blessed right now – we have been having thunderstorms all week and had fireworks going off in front of our hous last weekend. Doggies are as sweet and sleepy as can be.

My current dogs aren’t scared of fireworks, but Blue barks like crazy when he hears them.

  18. Spunky's Mom said

Spunky just became afraid of fireworks and thunder this year – she’s 12. So we got a Thunder Shirt, which I thought was helping some, until people in a yard very close to us started shooting off fireworks Monday night. Spunky already had her shirt on, but her whole body just shook in fear and her eyes got that crazy panicky look. So I got some calming treats from the vet. Since it’s not raining (for once – been very wet and dreary here in southeast Michigan), I’m guessing we’ll be hearing booms, pops and whizzes in the next couple of hours. Here’s to hoping the calming treats work!

I thought we were so lucky to have a dog that wasn’t afraid of noises. Never expected her to start having anxiety as an old girl – but I guess it’s like people – certain anxieties get worse with age.

Happy 4th to everyone here in the US! Celebrate safely!

Is there anything in the whole world more comforting, more healing, than snuggling up with your beagle?
