Our Saturday adventure

Sherman was due for his rabies shot and rather than take him to the vet where I’d have to wait and probably pay excessive amounts of money, I took him to the local pet store which had a vaccination clinic last Saturday. I don’t think I would have brought Stanley there because of all the noise he would have generated. Sherman, on the other hand, was perfectly well-behaved except when he lifted his leg and marked the corner of the check-out counter. I have never seen him mark before and was shocked, but the store people thought nothing of it. Anyway, he met a lot of dogs and he was quite the gentleman.

It turned out that the wait was longer than it probably would have been at the vet. They just didn’t seem to have their act together. We strolled around the store while we waited. I used to bring Clayton here and (with the manager’s permission) let him off the leash to “browse”.

Sherman was a little quicker than Clayton used to be — in fact, as you can see, he was just a blur.

We went to Pet Smart the day we brought Cody home, and he peed in a couple of places.

Love the pictures! I’m also going to guess that since Sherman is smaller than Clayton, if he weren’t wearing a leash he’d probably completely disappear under the shelving. Josie is more Clayton’s size and build (Jordan was kind of between Scooter and Spencer), and Lady is more like Sherm and Stan. I still can’t get over how super fast and agile she is, compared to Josie and Jordan (and more ornery!).

We have a very nice Beagle in the rescue that i volunteer with now. His name is Regis, and he did the same, under the rack search on Saturday. So darn cute. But having Beagles of my own, if they say there is a snack there, there is a snack there. 🙂

Love the pictures, blurry or otherwise, thanks Laurie for brightening my day.

This is true: if the beagle acts like there’s a snack under something, there’s a snack under it. And you’re not going to have any peace until the snack is retrieved. I learned this when we kept the kibble next to the washer and dryer – I got tired of moving the appliances for the beags.

We did that exactly once with Bailey as a pup. He marked every corner, then we put him in the cart and he barked incessantly. It was quite embarrassing.
    Never tried it again…..
I could see Trent burrowing under the racks for that one morsel of year old kibble…I’ve had to remove a furnace register once, to get a found treat out….Gypsy would have tore it off the wall if we didn’t catch her clawing at it. Her raised bowl sits in front of it, so she must have bounced one in….we have since switched the water and food bowls around…

Love the stretch under the shelving. Once Scout leaped about two feet into the center of a bush for some smelly food he found too good to pass up.

That is awesome! Gunner and Bailey are blurrs in pet stores too. I stopped going to PetCo because their stores were so dirty all the time that I wasn’t comfortable letting them gobble up whatever ‘treat’ they found. There is no way we could of ever taken doggy obedience in a petsmart either, way too many smells around, lol

Sherman seems to waiting so patiently in line 🙂

We’ve had good luck with the shot clinics, but I always feel guilty about not giving the business to our vet. I’m going to stop feeling guilty, the cost of our last visit was almost $350.

When I took Cody for his shots in January and Henry for his in June, the cost was about $230. That did NOT include rabies, because they both had the 3-year vaccinations a couple of years ago and aren’t due for rabies until next year. They both got their distemper shot, Lyme disease shot, kennel cough shot, and were tested for heartworm. (I don’t know why they have to test for heartworm, because both boys get their heartworm pill EVERY month.) I then buy a year’s supply of heartworm pills.

The pix of Shermie and the other dog are so cute. Love that Shermie boy!

The pix of the Original Three yesterday were also fun to see. Clayton looked a lot like Henry, except Henry has more white on his face.

    Cute story

  9. When I was paying my vet bill once, the late great Rosco tore into one of those huge bags of specialty food that sits out front. I paid the bill and ran!!!

At the vet’s I have to watch the dogs like a hawk so they don’t pee. They leave no doubt as to what they think of the place.
