Lady and Josie

Pillow Forts

Almost all beagles, if permitted on the furniture, end up with their own style of pillow fort. Jordan would just make a hideaway for comfortable napping. Lady puts up reinforcements, and makes sure she has a clear view out the window, so she can immediately let us know if anyone invades the neighborhood. Josie, on the other hand, doesn’t enjoy people furniture, and much prefers if her comfort is provided in the way of dog beds (the more, the better!).

What’s your beagle’s (or honorary beagle’s) pillow fort style?

Josie looks like the princess and the pea!!!
And Lady is a little beauty!

Ours don’t do pillow forts 😦
But Bartles does the extreme curl up after scritch scratching around the bed to get it just right.

Kramer would borrow only to come out when he got too hot. Gandolf, we’ve tried to cover him on his dog bed, but usually the blanket ends up in the middle of the floor, with him stretched and “oozed” over the pillow, spilling off the edges. We got a large bed for him, as he’s part shepherd/beagle. It’s rather amusing. 🙂

  3. With Scout it’s on top of bed, under covers, top of bed, under covers, and get me up because it’s breakfast time!

Ever notice how much longer our beagles’ necks are without their collars? 🙂

Ben gets right in behind the couch cushions. He also burrows under the blanket on the dog bed. Tito is more of a percher. He perches on top of the couch cushions and arms.
Sometimes he will make himself a nest in a blanket. Somehow he gets it perfectly round – it is quite amazing.

We came to the shocking realization that Lady basically nests in every single piece of soft people furniture in the house. When Josie was more mobile, she’d get on the couch occasionally, but never the people bed — she prefers her dog beds. Jordan just wanted to be where you were, and a dog bed was fine sometimes, too.

I do notice that my Marley will lay stretched out when he is hot and curl up in a tight ball if he’s cold. And of course he has to dig up his invisible bed, spin around, dig, spin around some more, dig some more, etc.

Ha! Gomez, AKA Mr. Pillows, actually shares my pillows at night (I’m not really happy about this, but I’m a complete pushover with the beags). Lily prefers the Leaning Tower style of bed construction like Josie, but requires human furniture as a foundation. Mr. Peabz, who spent the first part of his life living in an open pen in the high desert, has discovered the joys of snuggling under the covers in bed with the rest of the pack. All of them prefer being with me, unless there’s some food potential with someone else.

Jodi is on the bed and under the covers. The boys are not allowed on the bed, so Barney is on the sofa curled up and Huggy in curled up on the chair (barely fits) 🙂 No blankets necessary for the boys.

Cobalt will climb behind the pillows and barricade himself. Onyx, being the Princess that she is, prefers to rest her head delicately on a pillow.

  10. Cute pictures. My beagles, including the late great Rosco, jump on the couch and knock down the pillows onto the floor before they settle in. We do have a couch on the lanai and I sit out there on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and read. This couch has nice big fluffy throw pillows and Spencer likes to perch himself behind the end one with his head laying on it facing out like a crowned prince. I sit in the middle and Oscar sits on the end, but he is still not much interested in the pillows.

The picture of Lady looks so familiar!!! Cassie makes herself a nest every time she settles down to sleep. If she chooses one of the beds and it’s been made, she’ll scratch the duvet up into a mound and plonk herself on top of it! On the sofa, she scratches up all the cushions and the throw and curls up either on top of or underneath all of it. JB only makes a nest at night when he goes to bed – he gets in the doggy bed in the bedroom and scratches the cushion and blanket up so hard he makes himself breathless. Then he leaves the mess, jumps on our bed, curls up and goes to sleep. There’s no accounting for beagles!!!!!

Wow! I didn’t realize that all beagles did this! Mine definitely likes moving around the pillows and getting hersefl in the middle just so.
