Neat trick

We’ve been giving the boys a Dentabone after we eat dinner. It takes longer for them to chew it than a biscuit-type treat. This means that I often finish loading the dishwasher before Stanley is done eating. For the last two days he has taken his treat (in his mouth) to the dishwasher and (briefly) tried to multi-task. The dishwasher consistently loses. Poor Stan, no prewashing for you.

Please be careful when you give them a dentabone. Because they are long and skinny they can easily become lodged in their mouth or throat. This happened to Tito at my inlaw’s house. He was eating the dentabone and it became wedged up against his palate. He was panicing and bleeding. Thanksfully I was able to dislodge it. It was pretty scary.

Hmmmm wonder if the She Devil would give up pre-washing for a bone. Never tried it.

I have had that happen with a part of a bone/chew getting stuck like that but it was not with a Dentabone. It can happen with anything. Guess that’s why most say to use supervision.

    TGIF!!!!

I have had to pull stuck greenies from Gypsys mouth a few times. Never stuck in her throat though. Always in her back teeth. She doesn’t get them anymore. Too much trouble digesting them..
Trent still gets greenies daily..but I guess i am not timing it right..since he still gets to prewash as well…

He is on a new class of anti seizure meds (levetiracetam er) now. We will wait and hope that he stays seizure free….

    TGIF is right!

Stan has no chance of multi tasking – he’s not female! 😉

Kichwa Tembo once got a small stick wedged in her upper jaw between the two rows of teeth. Of course we didn’t realize what was going on – she started acking and gagging late one evening and we ended up taking her to the emergency vet, who whipped out a pair of grabbers and out came the stick. $65.00 later we went home and back to bed.

The current pack can’t have greenies because Lily just swallows them whole. Then she goes after her brothers’ greenies and swallow THEM whole. She’s sitting here staring me down for my toast as I type this. 🙂

They are such chow hounds! It’s amazing how quickly they can scarf something when they’re really motivated (which is pretty much always).

Also, Stan looks so athletic in that photo. He just looks ready to run, and run, and run.

I’ve heard too many stories about dogs having problems with greenies, so Cody and Henry do not get them.

Halo makes a good chewie that I give to Cody. It’s hard enough that he doesn’t eat the whole thing in 30 seconds, and it keeps his teeth clean. A package has 7 or 8 sticks, and they come in pumpkin and mint flavors. The only reason Henry doesn’t get them is that they’re too hard for his old gums and teeth.

    Happy Friday, everyone!

  7. I might have the tuna fish sandwich theft story beat for this week!

We are going on a diving trip and we were putting our “survival food” in a small cardboard box on the island in the kitchen so we won’t forget anything. When I got home the box was on the floor with two of the corners chewed off and missing was a whole box of instant oatmeal (8 packets) and a bag (16 oz.) of walnuts. Also, one of the small 500 ml boxes of chardonnay had a whole punched in it, but thankfully the dogs didn’t drink that!! Boxes and plastic wrap was still there, but the individual bags around the oatmeal were mostly ingested.

I guess I’m lucky they stopped and didn’t eat the peanut butter packets or the almonds and tofu.

The boys aren’t moving much and there is already diarrhea in the yard. Can’t wait for tonight!

I’m not sure if winning at this contest is a good thing?
