Whoa, Nelly!

Posted by laurie on March 31, 2014

This was one of my impulse purchases from browsing around on Amazon. They’re supposed to slow down the fast eater, of which I have two.

When I put kibble in them, the boys didn’t know what to do. I had to move it back into their regular bowls. I’ll try again. though.

They did fine with the canned food and it did slow them down. If you’re interested, here they are.

We had these also and one of ours chewed through the side of it! We ended up switching to the orange circular ones(Foster &
Smith) for all three of our beagles. Our smaller beagle gets up on it and walks around it also but it has slowed down the eating especially since two of them are very food driven!! It has been successful. Adding some water has helped the dry food do less rolling in the orange ones.

Had to get on for Xanti my other beagle. Worked great only problem was bowl slide around but that also slowed down the eating process.

These bowls are a very good idea. My dogs inhale their food.

I’ve tried two different ones for Bartles Basset… Neither worked for him 😦
The Martha Stewart (the only brand available at Petsmart here in town at the time) slides around, but then my husband got him a giant Kong brand… Doesn’t slide but doesn’t slow him down either 😉

I had one of those for my beagle and it really helped. Well, it slowed him down from about 5 seconds to 20 seconds… The fact that it slides around seems to help slow them down too!

Also, maybe once your boys get the hang of the new bowls with the canned food, you can put kibble in them.

  7. I just went to PetCo last weekend. for new bowl for Holly. Her other bowl had a crack in it. I wanted to get a bowl like this but all they had was the huge one that looks like a maze for $25 ! I ended up buying a slow feel suction cup thingy that looked lik a bone and fit in the bottom of a bowl. Well, it slowed her down for about 3 feedings. Then she figured out how to get it out and chewed it up too ! Perhaps I will have to go and order one at Amazon also. Great idea Laurie !

We found that this one worked best for our two piggies Works well with both wet and dry. When we used the plastic ones, Gypsy would toss it on the floor to get the food out. . Slow down bowl:
Sorry. too lazy to code the link..

Lady eats faster tahn Josie, but I don’t think either of them is so bad that they need to be slowed down. Only issue is that you have to watch Lady like a hawk, because since she finishes first, she’ll shove her face into Josie’s bowl and pushes her out of the way (And poor old Josie girl lets her do it. Back in the day, she would have kicked her little furry backside for even looking at her bowl!).

Did you ever wonder? They are beagles, they are masters of eating. Maybe they know something we don’t. Maybe we need special bowls so we can eat faster.

Yes, I have, but we don’t barf it up and eat it a second time…cause it was so good the first time, it must be good the second…
      or worse yet, fully digested…

Here are the bowls we got for our 3 and it now takes them at least several minutes to eat rather than say 20 seconds. Yes they do have to work at ti.
