Lady and Huck

Posted by laurie on June 2, 2014

Hey everyone, it’s Susan from DE! We had an SOS Rescue beaglefest on Saturday and she and Lady made the drive up from Delaware. Lady is a petite sweetheart and here of course she’s doing what she does best.

We had about 60 people and 40+ dogs. Sherman and Stanely are pooped!

And Emily writes: “The next generation arrived — Hucknall. All beagle, part termite, growth properties of wild weeds, and needs a new cardboard box.”

  1. Buddy and Holly were pooped pups too. My son was suppose to come over on Sunday around 10 am , to help me with some things, but instead he decided to arrive at 4 AM. Not only did I never hear him come in, he said that Buddy and Holly didn’t move a muscle or open an eye, and he walked right past them. They both fell asleep very early Saturday night and burglers could have had a party in my house that night and they wouldn’t have cared. They both ran and chased and played all day and had a blast. I loved seeing the big silly grin on Buddy face as he chased with Foster Perry most of the afternoon. Thank you Laurie and Phillip for being the hosts with the most. It looked like everyone had a great time.

Thanks so much Laurie and Phillip. We all had a great time. My dogs slept in the car on the drive home. And they’re still tired now!

    Wow! How terrific!
Lady is a little beauty and Hucknall looks ADORABEAGLE … Probably because he’s asleep? ๐Ÿ™‚

When Laurie was taking the photo, I commented, “I drove two hours to demonstrate what happens in my own house!” Lady was a bit frantic and overwhelmed at first, but once there were people with food, she made the rounds and was begging off everyone with a plate. She was asleep within 10 minutes of getting into the car, and was sacked out the rest of the night.

What a great time, and thanks again to Laurie and Phillip for hosting! It was nice to meet Willow’s mom, and get to chat with Audrey, Courtenay and Lance, and several others. I only got to say hi to Karen S. and give her a hug, she was tangled up in her dogs and Lady had a slight altercation with Daisy Mae early on, so I wanted to make sure they had space.

Uncle Bob made a late appearance, and was swarmed by dogs, it was amazing! I suggested they have a fund raiser next time where people pay $5 each to have their dogs’ photos taken with famous Uncle Bob, kind of like Santa. And there were beagles trying to get in the house all day, since that was where the food was. You’ll recall from the years of DD photos that there are sliding patio doors on 3 sides of the house, at one point when I was inside I noticed there were faces peering in, no matter where you looked. I told Phillip, “It’s a bit freaky, kind of like being in a zombie movie …. we’re surrounded, there’s no escape!!”

Huck is definitely adorabeagle! And what an apt description, Emily! May he bring you many years of joy and mischief, they’re pretty much the same thing. :->

Indeed,my group was busy that day. Timmy was humping and getting humped, and Daisy Mae was snapping at any dog who got close. (Sorry about that) But the adventure started as soon as we got there. I was leashing up the dogs when Daisy Mae ran away! She just bolted into the woods and down into the road! I and the other 2 dogs chased her down the road. She actually came back to us–that was a first. It was only when I got home that I discovered that I got cut on some barbed wire and tore my shirt when I slid into the road. But it could have been worse. And we did have a great time after all! That Daisy Mae is such a bad girl! “Good girls go to heaven, bad girls go everywhere.” Blue likes to run away also. But Timmy never does–one of his many redeeming features.

    • Lady has the same coloring down her back that Oscar has. The pale stripe down the back. I call it the “Reverse Skunk” look

What fun~ wish we lived closer; would love to be in the midst of 40+ dogs (mostly beagles). What great weather you had.

Lady’s pose is very familiar to all beagle owners!

Also, if you are in the MD/DC/VA area, Beagle Rescue of Southern MD is having a beagle bash on September 14 – I am attempting to link to their flyer here:

What a fun time! Loved meeting folks and their beagles, and Willow had a blast. She’d walk by us every 10 or 15 minutes (just to make sure we were still there, I guess, lol), and give us a big grin. She didn’t fall asleep on the ride home, but she conked out and was snoring after dinner. And the next morning she kept looking out into the back yard as if to say, “Where did all my friends go?”

Thanks for a great day. We really loved seeing you and Phil and the boys and everyone else. Bess was also quite tired out. Traffic home wasn’t bad at all!
