Like father, like son

Posted by laurie on January 26, 2011

First off, let me just say that Phillip trimmed Stan’s nails on Sunday. These are embarrassing not to mention scary.

The other night I was in bed reading when I heard that distinctive sound which is Stanley chewing on a bottle cap. I got out of bed and walked to the stairs where he was busy noshing. Seeing me, he immediately ran away, so, having done my part I called to Phillip to take over from there. (Phillip has a way with Stanley and bottle caps.) The next thing I hear is, “he brought a frozen poop inside!” Well, I don’t exactly know what they sound like but I was pretty confident in my analysis of the situation. Phillip went for a paper towel and when he came back and Stanley dropped the bottle cap, right next to the poopsicle. Good boys!

Diet Mt. Dew cans would be a lot safer.

Max used to love playing with 2-Litre soda bottles. We’d leave the cap on so they didn’t squish easily and he would chase them around the house (supervised of course)until he ended up getting a hole somewhere and they’d squish. Best free toy ever! LOL

Wow, for a moment there I thought you might have to change Stan’s name to Jabberwocky. Definitely some ferocious looking claws and facial expressions!

  3. The first thing I noticed were his claws. Yikes were they long! Whenever I read about your Petco nail-trimmings it’s a reminder that at least the two boys need manicures.

We used plastic bottles as chew toys for a while, but the noise and the fights were too much. So we’re back to stuffed animals and peeled tennis balls.

So glad to know that my beagles are not the only ones that like to bring their poopscicles inside to eat.

When we first got Dexter he was very happy with himself when he brought in a poopscile, us not so much. An update on Dexter’s foot surgery he came through it just fine, Thank God. Thanks for all of your prayers, I pray that Shiloh is doing well too. Now are big dilema is how to keep his foot dry when he goes potty in northeast Ohio, we have tried everything, bread bags, baggies, my footies, iv bag from the vets, any suggestions are truly appreciated. Quick update on Casey, he’s been eating good at least once a day(somethimes 2)but it is a challenge to find things that he likes anymmore.

I feel your pain! Austin, aka Wild Child, tore 2 nails off his right rear paw. Major ouch and blood all over the place. I purchased a bootie at Petco called MUTT UGH. Very expensive but cheaper than a return visit to the vets. I feel fairly confident that he can not get it or chew it off.

Violet, one of my female beagles, brings poopsicles in the house in a very unladylike way and gnaws on them if I don’t keep a close eye on her, so I feel your pain.

We switched to plastic after RustyBob cut his mouth. There was so much blood all over; I thought he was mortally wounded. Following the smears of blood I found him happily licking the last drops of what I am sure was flat coke! The cut was small, thankfully! The mess was HUGE.

True Confessions of a Beagle Mom: Spunky loves poopsicles (but so far has not brought one in the house) and her nails are embarrassingly long.

Cody and Henry love the delicacies of the litterboxes. Thoroughly digusting! But it’s funny when they have cat litter on their noses.

Mmmmmmm …. kitty bon-bons! We don’t have cats, but Josie and Jordan can sniff out cat poop anywhere, including in our yard where the wandering neighborhood cats leave it. :-< They don't bring it inside, but their less-than-pleasant breath when they come inside makes it perfectly clear what's been going on.

Thank you Bobbie for your kind words–so glad Dexter is on the mend, and Casey will be in my prayers.

Update on my sweet Shiloh: we start chemotherapy tomorrow, she also has an infection somewhere-high white blood count–and is on antibiotics, still on the prednisone. She was ‘drained’ Monday and they took almost 2 liters of fluid out, she lost 3 pounds. To me it looks like she is bloating again already and it’s breaking my heart. The only things she wants to eat are Eukanuba Healthy Extra treats, and what the hell, I’m giving them to her as a meal. She is seemingly in no pain, but sure seems confused at times.
I thought I would know when it was “time” if she were in pain, but she’s in no pain–and I just don’t know what to do. Guess I’m waiting to see if the chemo helps. If it doesn’t, I probably still won’t know what to do. Crying a lot doesn’t seem to help.
I keep thinking about the DD calendar with her birthday in it and wonder if she’ll be around when her June 12 birthday comes around.
Any success stories with chemo out there that I can hang onto?

    I love the second picture.

Laurie: Question…how do you get the pictures of them without weird eyes? I always get the eye shine when I take them and can’t figure it out.

    Thanks!

Marth: Sending good thoughts your way.

Martha ,I’ll Keeping praying for dear Shiloh and you of course. I know what you mean about giving them what they will eat, we’ve given Casey lasange, eggs with sausage, taco meat and yes treats. As long as he will eat I don’t care what he eats, he used to love his food now it’s a real chore to get him to eat, sometimes he will go for 24 hours before he eats. At those times I wonder if he’s trying to tell us it’s time to go to the rainbow bridge but then he’ll be silly and hop over to me or run around and put his butt up in the air then I feel bad for thinking that. They way he was at Christmas I didn’t know if he would make it through the holidays. How old is Shiloh? Please keep me posted.

    My Eddie loves bottles too!

But, can’s aren’t safer. He got a hold of one, and ate half of it. I think he’s part goat.
