Does this Grape Propel make my butt look fat?

Posted by laurie on August 29, 2012

Warning, warning: beagles may appear larger than they seem. Although Stanley looks like a little chubbo here, in fact he has lost several pounds and has his girlish figure back. We haven’t been to the vet lately to weigh him, but his harness is considerably looser than it was. He’s been getting lots of five-mile walks and I’ve been feeding him just a little bit less.

The Grape Propel is my Diet Mtn Dew. I just love the stuff. After a run I down an entire bottle all at once.

Jasmine’s sidekick (and open discussion)

My family and I have been following your website for about 11½ years, and have occasionally submitted entries under the name “Jasmine’s sidekick.” We are heartbroken to tell you that our sweet beagle girl, Jasmine, has passed away at age 12 from what appears to have been a brain tumor. We did almost everything together – walks/runs, vacations, car rides, boating, and just hanging out together at home. She was an ever-loyal companion as we dealt with deaths and other losses in our family along the way, a beautiful dog who brought us 12 years of joy, fun times and unconditional love. She meant the world to us, and we are going to miss her very much.

They just don’t live long enough, do they? I’m so sorry about your loss. What a sweetie she must have been!

I’ve decided to include Guest DDs on Tuesday and Thursday, along with the open discussion. Send me a photo and text. Please, only one photo so I don’t have to choose, and no larger than 800px wide so I don’t have to edit. (If you don’t know how to reduce the size, don’t worry, I’ll do it.) Since these are technically my days off I want to be able to post them quickly.

Zzzzzzzz….

Posted by laurie on August 27, 2012

For real! This was my nap on Saturday. I was worried that I might be crushing Sherman, but he kept breathing so I figured he was okay.

Although he might have a different opinion on the matter.

Who goes there?

Posted by laurie on August 24, 2012

Do as I say and not as I did here. Don’t give your dog grapes. Sherman doesn’t like them anyway, but that doesn’t stop him from examining them. Closely.

This dog does a furrowed brow better than any I’ve ever seen.

Dessert is served

Posted by laurie on August 22, 2012

The list of what Stanley won’t eat is pretty short, in fact just one word: lettuce, which actually he will eat if there is salad dressing on it. Both boys palates tend towards poop. I’ve given up being grossed out by it. Well, I’m still grossed out, but not enough, for example, to enjoy my dinner on the Lido deck while one of them chows down.

You first met Lily in December 2010. She’s as perky and cute as she was then, maybe even more so. Kate – it was great having lunch with you yesterday!

I’ll have a vodka gimlet, please

Posted by laurie on August 20, 2012

I have a question. Why does everyone ask me, “How’s your summer been?” No one asks me in February how my winter has been. Or spring and fall. Just summer. I think it’s because we’ve idealized summer as three months spent lazily on the beach wearing Ralph Lauren polo shirts and sipping appletinis. I didn’t quite achieve that but, except for the heat, I had a lovely summer. Thank-you!
