Little Coleman is 13 months old and already a dog person.

How cute is this?

Stanley was thankful for the abundance of mashed potatoes. (You’ll see more of little Coleman tomorrow.)
Sherman was thankful for the abundance of guest bedding.
Carol asked what kind of soup I made. It’s this tried and true curried butternut squash soup. A bit time-consuming to make (especially for twelve), but yummy.

Let me tell you, my three mile birthday swim last week was NOTHING compared to Thanksgiving for twelve plus lodging and four more meals for eight. It was totally exhausting but lots of fun. Moses did not come (sorry!), nor did the other dogs, Elizabeth or Levi; Vous was the only doggie guest. We did have a one-year old little boy though, and you can look forward to some adorable pictures of Cole and Sherman. That’s Sherman above, guarding Chad’s mashed potatoes. He did an excellent job.
“HURRY UP WITH THE SOUP COURSE, WILL YA? BRING OUT THE TURKEY AND THE STUFFING AND THE MASHED POTATOES!”
This was not posed! And with only beer, coffee and hot sauce left, the table was relatively safe.

Thank-you so much for all your lovely birthday messages! I had a very nice day. I definitely recommend “11/22/63”. I’m 39% into it (that’s how the Kindle counts pages) and am totally absorbed. I can’t compare it to his other work because I’ve not read it, but it’s definitely not scary.
By the time you read this I will be up to my ears in making soup and locating extra sheets, pillowcases and towels. Our Aerobed died so we had to get a new one. Phillip’s sister Sara is also bringing one, but that still wasn’t enough, then Phillip discovered this queen-sized camping mattress. Not the pinnacle of comfort but I bought one of those egg crate things. Anyway, I will return next Monday with plenty of pictures.
Please order your calendars and especially enter your special days. I want to give it to Ron to print early next week. (You’ll be able to order into mid-December.)
Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!

I’m reading “11/22/63” by Stephen King. This is actually the first book I’ve read by him and I picked it because I love time travel stories and it has great reviews on Amazon. This is where a Kindle is at its very best, because the hardcover has 849 pages. That’s almost as heavy as that dog resting across my entire mid-section. I’m really enjoying the book.
(Kennedy was assassinated on my 4th birthday, a claim to fame that I could do without.)

If you need an easy recipe for pie for Thanksgiving, consider this crustless cranberry pie. I’ve been making it for years and it always gets rave reviews. It’s a one bowl recipe and you don’t even need an electric mixer. I made two yesterday and froze them. On Wednesday I’m going to make a couple of pumpkin pies. Wednesday is also soup making day and I have four large butternut squashes waiting in my car. We’re having 11 people, a baby and 2 or 3 dogs including Moses. Sleeping arrangements will be tight but heck, we’re all family!

I don’t know what possessed me to paint Phillip’s office that color. Frankly I would like to repaint all the rooms except the two guest rooms, but am too lazy. Also, can you IMAGINE what fun Stanley would have with cans of paint?

I took Susan In DE’s advice last night and started off towards the middle of the bed. That helped a lot, thanks! The boys still glommed onto me, but I stayed a foot or so away from the edge. Phillip comes home today so tonight I’ll have that vast oasis of half a king-sized bed to myself. Sorry, dear!

Little me in the king-sized bed didn’t stand a chance last night. I kept waking up to find myself closer and closer to the edge. At 5:30 I was just about to fall off so I got up. It was just about time anyway. Phillip is going to come back from his trip and brag about how well he slept in the king-sized hotel bed. That’s okay, he deserves it.

Packing seems to be far less anxiety provoking to the beagles when no scuba gear is involved. Phillip is going to a meeting in Atlantic City. That’s the Las Vegas of New Jersey and hopefully he’ll play some blackjack and make us wealthy beyond our dreams.
Does Stanley detect something potentially edible in the bottom of the suitcase?
An empty baggie! Next best thing!
